Point of Knockdown Talent

By damnkid3, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

When I see this talent continue be given to new classes it bothers me. The talent lets you knock an opponent prone at the cost of a triumph . To me that seems like some thing you could do with just advantages versus a triumph. Or do with a Triumph regardless of this talent, so since this talent is out should we not be allowing people to be knock prone as part of spending advantages and Triumph since it then negates the Talent.

How do you handle this talent in your games? replace it modify it? or play as is. Also how does it effect your players knocking opponents prone.

I've wondered the same thing as well. Since one of the examples of 3 Threats or Despair is that the active character falls prone, I've always allowed players to spend 3 Advantage or Triumph to have a a target go prone (mainly because I was playing Force and Destiny characters and that doesn't have the talent in any of the trees or listed in the book).

It has not come up in any of my games yet but I will probably allow someone to trade it out if it does.

I may change the talent to allow a character with that talent to knock someone prone with a single Advantage rather than 3 Advantage or Triumph. Meaning that they have trained in unbalancing opponents and it's easier for them to do.

1 advantage is too powerful imho, 2 advantage seems ok. Also brawl attacks gets knockdown per RAW and the talent lets you do it with melee and lightsaber, so it has a RAW purpose.

I dealt with this by simply houseruling the talent to instead impart the Knockdown weapon quality, or if the weapon already has the Knockdown weapon quality, then the PC is considered to have spent an additional advantage towards the quality, making it easier for them to knock larger foes on their butts.

I like that change to the talent, of any weapon they use can have the knockdown talent.

One could consider knockout talent as KO in box. The target is prone and out of a combat. Optionally needs to pass a Resilience test.
