Hyperspace Han/Lando, After the July Adjustment

By theBitterFig, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Two boosting Large-base ships with high initiative are seldom bad. I'm trying to figure out a neat way to fly them.

I see two main directions:

  • Without Kanan in Hyperspace, there's only one option for the Force, and that's Luke Gunner, who is almost prohibitively expensive, but fairly powerful.
    • Lando (no upgrades) 80
    • Han Solo (R2-D2, Luke Skywalker) 118
      • So this variant means Lando has to cut Nien Nunb, and would be on fewer banks for his ability, but Han has both regen and the force. There's a lot of potential in that. Not sure it's worth giving up what else could be in the list. From below, there could be an extra 3 HP and Nien Nunb and a bit extra.
    • 2 unspent points, almost surely best in bid. There's not much which could be afforded which would be remotely decent in Hyperspace.
  • Without cheap access to the Force, I figure extra health is good.
    • Lando (Nien Nunb, Hull Upgrade, Shield Upgrade) 92
    • Han (R2-D2, Hull Upgrade, Engine Upgrade) 102
      • I figure 15 health Lando is a solid build, but Han probably wants Engine Upgrade. Lando doesn't need it as much, since he's usually on Blue moves anyhow for his pilot ability. Hull only on Han, since that'll extend the length of time he can use R2-D2.
    • 6 unspent points, that I don't mind filling. There's a few options
      • Leia would fit, but I don't really think she'd be great in this list. Lando likes his Blues, and I don't necessarily feel red moves are the most important on Turret ships.
      • Cassian Andor would be neat on Lando. He seems like he's a dude somewhat easy to block, so Lando to potentially adjust the dial wouldn't be terrible.
      • 2x Intimidation is a silly idea, but a tempting one. Large-base ships aren't too hard to block, and Lando is on fairly predictable Blues, so having Intimidation to punish folks who block them has an appeal to me. I'm not sure it'd be worth it.
      • Millennium Falcon title on someone. That's potentially decent tankiness, but I don't know if there's action economy to support it.
      • Trick Shot on Han Solo. Probably technically very good, I've seldom felt effective at using it. - I figure this is the variant I'm most likely to try first, this or the Luke variant.
      • Chewbacca crew on Han Solo. It'd provide some mitigation against crits exposed by R2-D2, but I kinda don't think it's too important.
      • 6 points of bid. Tempting, since these are high-init ships with strong movement actions.
  • Either way, as to obstacles, I'm almost thinking Debris Clouds. The worst thing is to lose your shot, so I don't really want rocks. Gas Clouds wouldn't be bad, since Lando can nearly ignore them due to his ability, but Debris Clouds seem like they're a little bigger, and pure size seems good.

For Hyperspace, unless you have Lando crew around, I think Han with R2 and EU is plenty. That leaves room for my favorite Lando, with Magva, title, and Nien. You don't shoot him? He locks/focuses. You shoot him? You give him a lock and he focus/evades. Unless he can dodge.
