I’ve been trying to come up with an organic mount that the Alliance might have employed on more temperate worlds. I’m trying to narrow it down to bipedal herbivores so as not to be too divergent from the official model. So far all I’ve been able to come up with are Kybucks, but I’m not sure how widespread their use was.
Tuantuan Proxy?
Kracian Thumpers. They were a mount option in the D6 minis game.

Is there anything stopping you from putting a rebel "rider" on the back of a wookie or two?

Riding on the back of a Wookiee is silly talk - they’d carry you around in baby bjorn slung at the front. 🤪
Those are fun: https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Kybuck
Cracian thumpers +1, they were known as Rebel mounts in lots of worlds, and were almost identical to tauntauns but without horns...

If you just remove the horns and place instead a couple of semi-long ears, you got it
Edited by TubbIn addition to the eerily similar kybuck, there are (possibly now Legends) brown tauntaun-like creatures on Endor. Dunno if they were ever actually given a name but they are brown tauntauns, with hooves for front paws, which can switch between bipedal and quadrupedal locomotion much like we know believe duck billed dinosaurs could.
And yes Cracian thumpers are West End's "totally not tauntauns". Dunno if anyone makes models of those though.
Conclusion: I would just paint tauntauns brown and give their riders uniforms to match your army.

I'm thinking two of them carrying a wooden firing platform, hence the notched base.
Eopies.

Are those the mounts from the Eowks Battle for Endor movie? Made canon?
Why not just paint your tauntauns as an animal from a more temperate climate?

I just know them from Clone Wars and Rebels.
What kind of monster would want to proxy a majestic creature like a Tauntaun!?
Kaadus from Naboo
in Star Wars Galaxies there were an arid climate Tauntaun on Lok and Tatooine called a Cu-pa

Yes. They absolutely are.
And for me personally at least, the Ewok Adventure movies are and always have been an intrinsic part of the Star Wars Canon.

I'd just do these. It's just a reskin....

If I bring in stuff from the Ewok movies it will be Wilford Brimley before anything else.
My solution is that I've bought alternative Hoth sculpts of Luke (pilot) and Leia and I'm going to make a whole new Snow-based Rebel army to run with TaunsTauns!
