Using Squadrons

By RedDogReb, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

I've never really used squadrons much before and its an aspect of the game I need to learn.

One thing has occurred to me which I'd like some advice on please. Apologies in advance for what is likely a noob question.

Can unengaged squadrons fly past enemy squadrons?

eg I have my imperial squadrons lagging behind a couple of VSDs.

VSDs get engaged by X-wings.

Can my imperial squadrons (assuming they have the movement) by pass the x wings to attack something else (other squadrons or ships) or must they engage the x-wings as they have moved within range 1 of them?

If your TIE-Interceptor begins the turn unengaded (or engaged but the enemy is heavy) it can hop over intervening squadrons no problem to land beyond them and escape or attack something else.

Jan protected by one X-wing. You hop over both to engage Jan form the far side where the X-Wing is not in distance 1 but Jan is. Now you can attack Jan ignoring the escort rule of the X-Wing.

As stated above. Engagement is only checked at the Start and End point. Squads don't actually "travel along the line", they're picked up at the start point, and placed at the end point, ignoring *everything* in between.

Once squadrons are within distance 1 of each other, and their Line of Sight is clear, those squadrons are *engaged*, and barring some other rule being involved (Heavy, grit, etc), they *cannot move*, and if they choose to shoot, they must shoot an enemy squadron (not ship) if able.

By the way, if you are bringing bombers in your list, I would recommend bringing Dengar. He gives "Heavy" to nearby enemy squadrons so that your squadrons are more free to move. (He also gives Counter or increases Counter to your other squadrons at distance 1.)

Thank you all.
