non-unique only lists...what would you fly? (no TIE Phantoms!)

If you had to only fly generic/non-unique pilots, what would you fly? What considerations make for a good non-unique ship?

This is not for a tournament or anything, just flying casual and having fun. And NO Phantoms! I KNOW that is/was a thing lol.

I mean there are a lot of generics that are things. All PS1 vultures with ESC, all PS3 star vipers, 5 academies and a patrol leader running Sloane, 4 t70s, 4 K-wings, 5 advanced optics As, the list keeps going. It's actually not hard to get generics to do something now.

5x Tansarii Point Vets with Outmaneuver and Autoblasters. 200pts flat right now. Fly a bit loose and hit a target from multiple angles, you'll have at least some out of arc. Ideally in side or rear arc of the target. When Snap Shot comes out I might swap to it over Outmaneuver, pending cost and it being in cardpacks instead of having to pick up the Rep Y-Wing.

I'd fly a squad of generic a-wings (rz-2 of course) (AO + heroic (have to ditch crack shot with the points change))

Would also do generic aethersprites (not sure how I'd set them up)

And would also do generic arc-170's but I'd need to buy more ships to run that one.

More seriously though, I was recently dazzled by generic Firespray Bounty Hunters. I loved me some ‘Sprays back in 1.0, and now they’re even better.

ARCs and Torrents are also joys to fly. Just wave those big ol’ beatsticks at anything that dares show up to challenge you.

And I do hope I can get some good 2.0 value out of my Z-95s at some point... sadly, the crippling of Feedback Array has crippled what I used to like to do with ‘em.

Many of my lists are all Generic, or maybe one unique. I know they adjusted a lot of points down, but there were a bunch of good Scum lists:

- 5 Khiraxz Fighters

I had 3 Kihraxz, 1 Scyk, and a Misthunter, but the points dropped so low it's hard to not get one in.

Lots if good Empire ones with a mix of X1's, V1's, Bombers, and Tie Fighters.

4 Red Squadron Vet T-65's.

Tons of good squads.

Tie FOs have been very good to me with the new points. If I wanted to go all generics, I would go 4 Omega Squadron Aces with advanced optics and fanatical and 2 Epsilons with optics.

Related to this, one I've been wanting to try is six Zetas, all with Pattern Analyzer. Comes in at 192 points.

Supernatural Inquisitors with FCS. Fun, with a capital F U to your opponent's mind. They're just so efficient and agile, and your opponent will struggle to focus fire on any particular ship.

Others have already said it, but a mixed TIE/fo & TIE/sf squad with Fanatical is Good Fun too.

TIE/sf, pretty much any way you can build it. Those rear guns go a long way.

  • 6x ships (probably two Fanatical Omegas, four Zetas)
  • 5 ships with... Fanatical/Optics or Fanatical/FCS, or Passive Sensors and some kind of Missile (Homing and Cluster are the ones I'd think of first).
  • 4 ships with Special Forces Gunner and stuff. Crack Shot/Pattern Analyzer, Fanatical/Optics, 4x Fanatical, 3x Hull Upgrade, Zetas with Shield and FCS. Fanatical/Passive Sensors might not be bad on Gunner SFs (you can maximize how you'll use Lock, as well as where your arc is pointed for the extra die or the front/rear attacks).
  • A mix of TIE/sf and TIE/fo also seems strong. 4 Zeta FOs with Optics, 2 Zeta SFs with Optics, or 4 Fanatical Omega FOs and 2 Omega SF with Fanatical/FCS.

Don't wanna be a jerk, just saying that there's only 2 arc you really need to dodge, and even dodging one means a really big drop in firepower.

True that Ion isn't that scary, but 4-dice attacks with range denial have an excellent chance of hitting for at least 1-2 damage, even single-modded. Combine that with unavoidable proton bombs (with fuses if necessary) and the ability to keep running out and reloading it all up, and thirty-six total health and you have some very decent threats to worry about. Could substitute an Ion for DBM if desired.
