UPDATE: Pre-Order the "Ultimate X Token Holder!"

By wurms, in X-Wing

Correct me if I am wrong, but I am assuming that this is made out of plastic. More plastic to put your plastic in while you play with your plastic. As someone who plays the game, I can't say that nothing should be plastic, but does the incredibly minor convenience that this provides over a small cardboard box justify this clogging up the ocean for the next 1000 years?

Can you make this thing out of wood?

LOL.. Or bottles of Gamer fluid (Mtn dew)

I'm excited to read more about this product, and hopefully see plenty of more pictures!

Shouldn't the kickstarter have started yesterday?

Had small rookie kickstarter hiccup since we didnt know the entire launch process. Campaign is currently being verified by Kickstarter, then it will go live shortly after. I will post here when it goes live.

Kickstarter is live!

Please check it out. Thank you!

Personally, I use a shallow bowl but if you make a holder that sorts itself after I dump in tokens I would get it. Just kidding, all it would have to do is automatically group locks with ship numbers, finding pairs takes me ages.

Very cool. Do you have dimensions HxWxL for each module? How deep is the open module? Could I fit a small base on edge in the open module?

Are these thing being produced by a professional 3d print company or somebody with a hobby level machine?

Not saying the later isn't capable of acceptable quality, but I'd definitely be up front about it. Cranking these guys out on a $2500 TAZ 6 is going to be a whole different ball game than a production batch on a $50k Stratasys, and if people feel like they were misled it could go **** up fast

One of the reasons he’s doing a kickstarter is to be able to mass produce it through a third party.

That is the implication!

But "mass produce" isn't actually mentioned anywhere afaik, only references to "our manufacturer" which is pretty vague.

@wurms is this being professionally printed? If so, what printing company is being used?

Yes, its being professionally printed. I will look at our kickstarter page to try and make it more clear.

I don’t see anything about what the trays are made of. I doubt it’s injection molded plastic since the molds are extremely expensive. Is it UV hardened resin? Can the backers pick the default color?

These look really cool, but I have a couple of questions if you've time to answer.

1) Do the numbered ID tokens for ship bases fit in any if the slots? I'd guess they'll go in the large square and maybe round slots?

2) Regarding the template/ruler tray, do you know if the new FFG plastic deluxe rulers fit in there? They're a little thicker/deeper than other templates, and the range ruler pieces have short 'tongues' that slot into the base piece. For that matter the range rulers available on this kickstarter are extra long to help with lining up on arc lines, it seems silly to ask but do they fit in the template tray with their extra length?

I pledged. It won't take too many people to hit the minimum target... get it done, guys!

Numbered ID tokens fit in any of the square slots without issue. Same goes for the hexagon shapes, like condition tokens. We didnt want to limit an entire slot to one specific token if someone doesnt use ID tokens (and instead uses something like Curled Paws IDs which fit in our turret slots).

2) I havent measured the FFG plastic ones, but I have seen them and am pretty sure they are too thick to fit flat. They will fit in the long open tray though, so you can still carry them with you.

They are professionally 3D printed, PLA. We looked at ABS, but it was too expensive, and would increase cost per module by like $8-$10. We have a manufacturer doing the printing. The color is white until more colors are unlocked. We need to hit a minimum order from our manufacturer, then we can open up new colors as stretch goals. First color will be a dark grey, as the playtest group and locals really liked that, and then we will open up choice of color as a survey for backers and which they want if we hit the next colors. It's all laid out in the stretch goals. There will be more color options for lids for customization.

I'm excited for the finished product!

Just an update!
