The sniper/sab unit for the CIS has to be Commando Droids . This clip makes it probably a clinch.

They will probably have red defense dice too considering how they were depicted . See at time index 1:31. So I’m hoping that the clone snipers will also have red defense dice, but both factions’ strike teams will probably be more than 44 points.

The clone version will probably be based off the scouts from the Clone Wars animated movie, more specifically the scene at the beginning of this YouTube clip . In it they do seem to be wearing a modified helmet, but regular armor (so red defense dice as well).

As for second Commanders, it’s likely we’ll see someone less expensive, but less combative. For the Republic, it will no doubt be Wullf Yularen , or Shoan Kilian , or Wilhuff Tarkin . It probably won’t be Anakin or Ahsoka, as they will tend to be way over 100 points. Even Rex and/or Cody will probably be way over 100 points.

For the CIS second commander, it will be a tactical droid (of one kind or another, maybe Kalani - more specifically) or Whorm Loathsom . As well they won’t go with Dooku, or Maul, cause they would be at least as expensive as Grievous.

Anyone else have some clips or thoughts on other units, or the Commanders?

I know there have been other threads, but I don’t have a life and I can’t stand waiting, so I’m trying to easy my plastic crack addiction with speculation of what’s coming.

Which brings me to another point. I know others have said CW will probably drop in September, but I’m hoping we get it in August. If you look at FFG (really unreliable) “Upcoming” page, it reads that the CW Core Set is “On the Boat” as of June 25th. That puts the delivery date at August 16th (at least according to FFG estimates). Also the Card Pack has May 28 “On the Boat” which puts its delivery on July 19th.

Yeah, I said the same the first time I heard the name, but he appears somewhat prominently in the CW animated movie, so I’d say it’s probably between him and Tarkin (he was in a few episodes of the animated series).

Well, I will be honest that I hoped the sniper droideka would be “sniper”, but as droidekas are vehicles, that doesn't seem likely.

Commando droids are viable, but they also need to have a different feel than just a direct port of the rebel and sniper teams.

While a sniper was shown once or twice, they had more focus on melee and infiltration. I would stick to the squad size 4, with a heavy.

I would give the an armament upgrade for the vibro blades, and possible the energy shields they carried, though the latter could work as a heavy.

The would need infiltrate keyword. I would also give them nimble.

Attack wise, I would keep with the white die - they use the same blasters as the B1’s. To give them a better chance to hit, sharpshooter 1 would help. I would also give them a black attack die. Giving the charge keyword, and AI move would give a different feel.

Defense wise, I would keep the white die, they are still frail, their resilience is based on dodging, not deflecting a shot from armour.

Those are just some of my musing on commandos; in short, they really should have a focus on being an agile melee focused opponent, rather than a true sniper.

As for commanders, I would imagine Dooku would be up next. My personal choice after Dooku, would be:

This droid had several appearances on Clone Wars, and even survived into the Rebellion Era, so thematically he fits EVEN when doing a tournament as he could lead B1’s against the Empire. Plus, cool looking detail. This also allows the basic tactical droid to be the Generic commander.

With Kalani we get the model for a Super tactical droid, which is cool and features in clone wars, the regular tactical droids can still show up (specialists) and we have a logical reason (for those of us who care) to have B1 and other clone units fighting the Empire. Kalani is the logical choice.

While there are some really cool characters in the cartoons, I think FFG will likely want to start off with characters casual fans could recognize from the movies. For that reason I predict the next leaders will be Nute Gunray and Episode II Padmé Amidala. For operatives I predict Jango Fett and padawan Anakin, which means we can have the three most “main” characters (Obi-Wan, Anakin and Padmé) pretty early, and they can make a leader Anakin later. For special forces, I figure Super Battle Droids and ARC Troopers. I know that last one wasn’t in a movie, but casual fans would still recognize them as clones.

You are almost certainly correct... there's no reason we should expect Leia/Veers equivalents when those are the most obvious choice for the second commanders; Dooku in particular brings Force powers to the CIS.

...and it should never have happened anyways. Resurrecting Maul was pure fan-fix fic (along with Clone troopers being chipped so that you could have "good guy" Clone troopers).

It's a missed opportunity if his mold isn't split at the waist.

Lucas has had quite a few bad ideas... though I question how much of it was his decision vs. he didn't really care what was going on in a cartoon he may or may not have included in his headcanon (yes I know it was canon, but it's hard to know what he was thinking). Anakin (Commander)
- I mean, he has to be 2nd, he's the guy the entire story is about... Possibly introduce a Master/Apprentice effect that would name the mini's "Master" or "Apprentice." It makes more sense to me to do "Master," such as: "Master: Obi-Wan Kenobi" that would provide some benefit or synergy to playing them together (ala Teamwork).

Yoda (Commander)
- Since so many Jedi served as the generals of the Clone Wars (non-Jedi admirals aside), I think they'll stick with Jedi commanders for GAR, and from a sales standpoint, it seems Yoda is the next logical step from Anakin, who, imo, just has to be the 2nd GAR commander.

Mace Windu/Generic Admiral Guy (Commander)
- Either continue with another 2nd tier Jedi character, or introduce the Cheap Commander.

Ahsoka (Operative)
- She would have "Master: Anakin Skywalker." But, she makes most sense as an operative.

Saw Gerrera (Operative)
-The one "native" guy they interact with (and who survives, RIP Steela) that stands out in the CW series, Saw would make sense as an operative, although they could just keep churning out Jedi in this role.

(I think Cody and Rex will be unique squad leaders like Pao and DT-Whatever in the Death Troopers.)

CIS

Count Dooku
- Most obvious next step, and the CIS will want to have a Force User, too.

Kalani (Commander)
- [Insert Cheap Commander Option Here]

Whorm Loathsom (Commander)

- [Insert some CIS alien leader here, basically]

Jango Fett (Operative)
- Most logical choice, even if he is just Differently Colored Boba Fett

Asajj Ventriss (Operative)
- She will give the CIS another Force user, and "Master: Count Dooku"

Inarguable. But, Maul fell into the Boba Fett category: Dude you knew nothing about but who looked cool AF so fans liked him and wanted more of him.

I think you are underestimating how much reach the clone wars series had, as well as how much FFG is going to draw on it.

First point is this; just look at the appearance of Obi-Wan in the clone wars starter:

Now look at Obi-Wan from the clone wars:

Do you see a resemblance?

It is important to note how much fan fare there is concerning Ahsoka, not to mention Cad Bane. Assajj Ventress is a sure thing as well. The clone wars has far more than just the movies. I am also confidant that they will use Anakin’s appearance (and role as commander) from the clone wars over his appearance that takes place PRIOR to the clone wars starting - that of a padawan.

The next wave of releases may be padding out some of the other slots that Republic and CIS don't have, so I'd expect heavies soon.

But if we're talking troops and HQ, then Geonosians and Poggle the Lesser could be an interesting one for CIS.

I would argue he should have never been killed. Leave Obi on an endless search for his masters killer while trying to adhere to the Jedi's orders ("don't do whatever it is you're trying to do"). Dooku could even still exist here and essentially they keep trying to outdo and sabotage one another for Sidious' attention.

Spider legs was weird for sure, but it eventually gave us old maul which was great.

Totally agree, and they want to cash in when the final season of Clone Wars comes out on Disney+ streaming service. There will be so much to mine from that with the Bad Batch, Mandos, etc.

As for Maul, I can see them releasing him only if they have a Shadow Collective faction (or a 5 Syndicate faction for GCW era) where he is in command of Death Watch, Pykes, Black Sun, etc otherwise he doesn't really fit in the game.

I'd thought about this, and I've been wondering whether FFG might give each faction a generic battlefield commander (clones would get Clone Commanders, Imperials would get Stormtrooper Commanders and so on).

Just a thought
