Full Throttle and Red 3 manuevers.

By KingmanHighborn, in X-Wing Rules Questions

This didn't come up with Tie Defenders since their 3s are all blue and white but the N-1 has 3 tallon rolls that are red. And I was told that the Delta can do a red maneuver, and still use Fine-Tuned, so since the wording is the same shouldn't an N-1 be able to pull a 3 tallon, get the evade and then take the stress just like the Delta can? (Though the Delta is segnors and k turns)

The only requirement is to 'complete' a 3-5 maneuver. So it'd seem that if the ship isn't blocked, or previously stressed, then the N-1 can pull it off. It also seems really good to combo with Elusive.

Full Throttle permits the Evade action to be performed after fully executing a maneuver, so after the Check Difficulty step. The stress from the maneuver still applies as normal.

aethersprites cannot perform an action via fine tuned controls if they executed a red maneuver either. unless they remove their stress (with anakins ability for example), that is.

as @Hiemfire states, Check Difficulty is part of executing a maneuver and that's when you recieve stress from executing a red maneuver.

both full throttle and fined tuned controls trigger after executing a maneuver, so if you execute a red maneuver you would not be able to perform the actions the abilities grant.

yeah Deltas can't fined tuned off of a red, you were lied to. You can't perform actions while stressed, even if those actions come from an ability (unless that ability also has the text "even while you are stressed"), and gaining a stress from a red maneuver is done before that maneuver is considered to have been fully executed.

The important consideration is that any ability that states "you may perform a (fill in the blank) action" does still need to follow all the regular rules of performing that action. That's in contrast to abilities that that do not include the word "action," yet still allow a ship to gain tokens , acquire locks , or reposition themselves .

Yeah that's the issue, is I was told that you complete the maneuver, THEN check stress, which means the evade from full throttle and fine tuned triggers, THEN you apply stress. This was also his excuse for being able to use fine tuned after going over rocks and gas clouds. And said I could do the same with defenders and N-1s. And said that it doesn't work with debris cause it gives you the stress for overlapping.

The check stress step is part of executing a maneuver. You haven't finished executing the maneuver until after the check stress step.

You can use fine tuned/full throttle after going over rocks and gas clouds. That's not because of timing; it's because rocks and gas clouds make you skip your perform action step, but fine tuned/full throttle are not a part of your perform action step, so you still get to use them as long as you fully executed the maneuver.

The penalty for going over debris is gaining stress. The stress does prevent you from using fine tuned/full throttle, because you can't perform actions while stressed.

Here's the relevant rule (Maneuver, p.13, RR.1.04):

Quote

A ship can Execute a maneuver by resolving the following steps in order:

[1] Maneuver Ship: During this step, the ship moves using the matching template. Take the template that matches the maneuver from the supply. Set the template between the ship’s front guides (so that it is flush against the base). Pick up and place the ship at the opposite end of the template and slide the rear guides of the ship into the template. Return the template to the supply.

[2] Check Difficulty: During this step, if the maneuver is red, the ship gains one stress token; if the maneuver is blue, the ship removes one stress token and one strain token.

A ship will have Executed a Maneuver after Steps 1 and 2.
