What faction(s) are you playing now?

By Greedo_Sharpshooter, in X-Wing

I’ve dabbled in Republic and First Order, but I always seem to find myself in the seat of an X-Wing or Tie Fighter(or variant there of). I just can’t get enough of the classic two factions. After coming to this realization it’s made it easier to hold off some purchases, eventually Scum will get converted. I have no interest in Seps or Resistance though.

I'm playing everything except Scum and Seperatists.

Scum is more or less a holdover from 1.0. I hated that faction, and while I like them a lot more in 2.0, I'm not a fan thematically and have too many factions anyway.

I don't fly Seperatists simply because five factions seems like it should be enough. :)

After my own heart. This is almost exactly me.

Except Hyenas are cool. Still not worth the expense yet.

Hyenas are hilariously cool but weird

Still sussing out their place in lists

I have been waiting...

I’m a Rebel player for the most part. It’s tough for me not to put Hera or Luke into a squad since those are my favorite characters.

I have dabbled in Resistance, First Order and Empire as well but have not found the list building as enjoyable. Resistance may see more play from me with the Transport being released. I have not picked up my Wave 4 stuff yet, and typically build with the cards and not with a squad builder (except to confirm points) so I’ve yet to start building for Resistance.

Still just Empire and F/O, although if and when the Ep. III ships drop for the Republic I'm gonna be tempted to run them as Empire-lite.

B&N had me join the resistance for transport fun! (Also had 3 T-70s from first Ed so...)

Anyway, I really like the look of FFG's T-70 minis, the transport shenanigans, and the A being a sort of "itty bitty baby Arc". So, those're my ships for a while to compliment the rather...boost less CiS playstyle.

Always been intrigued by the 2nd Ed T-70's incredibly solid statline, and now the reduced costs + transport covering relative lack of mods (baring Baristan, Pava, and the list-stiflingly expensive Poe) gives me a reason to put em on the table

Much as I adore the republic (Arcs), I kinda have to wait for everyone and their dog to stop playing them constantly...

I was dragged by mates to be all in on 2.0 First Order, and I consequently have the entire build-out (if one counts TIE/FOs pained with the SF red bands as TIE/SFs, haha) but the FO just don't live up to their awesome looking chassis. Kylo isn't quite the Ace we are looking for... so I am at a loss while gazing into the 2.0 world; cannot find a real hook.

...but I'll always keep trying, and looking for my tea.

Surprised kylo doesn't fit that mold. Despite his cost, he seems really strong.

But from what I've seen of the FO, they don't really have an obvious power combos as much as a selection of **** solid ships/pilots (especially now that TIEs got solidly buffed across the board) plus fanatic

There's Blackout being super cheap at 65 (fanatic ofc), which is a pretty good deal for that chassis. More importantly, gas clouds make it easier to benefit from his ability without splatting yourself on a problem obstacle (also kind tough to hurt a silencer behind a cloud)

Otherwise, we got the SF missile + passive combo (tl links into turret rotation, can fire missiles out butt; affordable) and the really solid Scorch (absolute bargain i4, 3-die primary) + Rivas (full mods fairly easily with ability) and arguably Longshot.

Id also say Petty Officer Thanison (ups) warrants some testing with their rather funny ability to just completely bork your opponent over in a fairly significant area

Yeah @ficklegreendice, you are correct on all points, but it's still that "almost" kinda thing. It will add a wrinkle to see how the missile+passive sensors buff some pilots.... but. It still seems the FO was not all that thought about --in comparison to other factions-- when they were diving into 2.0.

I feel like F/O has a great pilot (QD), solid pilots (Kylo, Blackout, Tavson, Scorch)...

...and not much else that can really pull its weight. Midnight and the other TIE/FO's hit like noodles, even with the points reduction the SF feels too expensive with the SF Gunner (although there may be a niche in them as Passive Sensor missile carriers) and the other upsilons don't bring nearly as much to the table as Tavson. F/O crew (outside of Phasma) leaves a lot to be desired, Fanatical pales in comparison to Howlrunner as an offensive mod, and the faction's best ships don't fit well together.

If the faction starts with R, I play it.

That said, I've pretty solidly played only Republic since they came out. I really love the mixture of agile ships and heavies. Plus, CW-era ships are best ships. Currently I can't stop playing Luminara+Padme. They are a fantastic pair. I'm having fun going fast with Ric, but he's actually not super amazing; it's really not hard to turn off his ability (he's pretty much limited to speed 3+, so if you dial in a 3, you're very likely to go the same speed).

I haven't tried Dinee too much; she doesn't pair too well with P+L, so I haven't had a reason to use her. But, I'm thinking a Sense 7b Mace could be a real good partner for Dinee with R2-A6.

Republic and Rebel

May try Resistance.

Scum is still my favorite, but I dabble in others (in order of preference😞 CIS, Resistance, Republic, Empire, Rebel

I feel like I'm missing something... maybe some year I'll think about looking into what it is. In the mean time I have more than enough to work through with the others.

Try them without the gunner; I think you might be pleasantly surprised. I've been running the i2 generics with just Optics and they've been very solid for 36 points. They fly like a strange cross of a T-65 and an RZ-2, only they don't have to make decisions on which arc they need to shoot from. The i3 with Fanatical on top for 40 is also excellent value.

Going with the three Rs in this order: Republic, Resistance, and Rebels. Had to put away Scum for awhile.

This.

The fact that you can have 5x I3's with AO and Fanatical in a list is crazy. 30 HP at a 50/50 split between Hull and Shields, behind 2 Agi, with every basic manouvre and sloops.

Extremely consistent offensive output, once Fanatical is active you have over a 90% chance of two hits with just a focus token. Plus you have extremely high time on target with an always on front and back arc.

Mini Firespray on steroids!

I'm expecting the I3 to go up one point at the end of the year.

You can't start a list better than 2 generic S/F's; either 2x I2 w/AO for 72pts, or 2x I3 as above for 80pts.

I think I'm going to shelve Scum for a while. About half the fleet is going in to long-term storage, I reckon, until we see some major shake-ups. Four straight absolute ROFL-stompings in two days, by Imperial/Rebel/Imperial/Republic. Looking at my tracking, I've had only two wins in Scum in the last fifteen games - against Scum opponents only. No wonder I'm feeling like X-Wing is **** right now. Thanks for letting me vent a little.

I can relate. Scum is where my heart is, but I haven't put them on the table in at least a month. I tried FO for the first time last night (QD and 2 FO test pilots) and unfortunately they were really fun.

I also fly Rebels but I see myself flying FO or Republic in the foreseeable future.

Currently in my play box I have Resistance (Vennie/Zari/Nien, Jess + 3 Reds), Scum (Oberos (Kimogila)/Fenn/Guri, Fenn/Teroch/Guri), Rebel (Rogue x2/Norra (ARC)), and Empire (Inferno). I'll add a Republic list and a First Order list as soon as I figure out something I know I'll enjoy, even if it loses.

I’m still focusing on my precious CIS and the Resistance. It’s fantastic that I always have new releases! I actually sold all my Rebel stuff at once. I thought the play style was a bit boring for my liking.

Nowadays I’m mostly playing Republic and Scums (Fenn/Ketsu/Lok mainly).

ARCs and Jedi are so cool 👍

Have not really been digging my go to Empire in 2.0. Its Scum and jedis so far for me.

I fly pretty much everything except Scum, FO, and Separatists. FO just isn't that interesting, and Separatists just seem pretty bad unless you want to invest in a swarm or multiple large ships. I do plan to fly them more once more options drop for them.
