Ebb/Flow question(s)

By bblaney001, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

If I am reading things correctly, you can only activate it once, UNLESS you take Strength upgrades, then you can basically can add another threat, advantage, success and so on.

I love the power, it just confuses the heck out of me.

Anyone capable of explaining it better?

Thanks

You pretty much nailed it.

It is a pretty neat power, and I've had a couple of 'saber monkeys swear by just the basic portion of the Flow part (plus the Strength upgrade) since it lets them quickly recover strain so that they don't burn out so quickly from using Parry and especially Reflect.

But yes, you're correct in that you only get to activate a given effect (inflict/recover strain, add threat/advantage, add failure/success) once per turn, unless the user has also purchased the relevant Strength upgrade. While the basic power and the Control upgrades all have the "may not activate this multiple times" verbiage in their full descriptions, the Strength upgrades call out that you can activate those upgrades multiple times.

The one exception to this is the final Control upgrade at the bottom left of the power tree (which frankly should have been labeled as a Mastery upgrade). Since it doesn't have the "may not activate this multiple times" tag, you could 'activate' it multiple times by committing multiple Force dice at the same time, much like Enhance's Control upgrades to bolster Agility and Brawn checks works (you just can't commit multiple dice over multiple turns). So a PC with FR4 could opt to commit three of their Force dice, and thus roll 3 Force dice with each skill check, spending the pips rolled as directed.

Now from the Strength upgrades it only lets you activate a second time and no further, yes? There's no verbage that say more than one additional time. I know that the verbage can be a tad odd. Also even just activating a 2nd time is insanely huge.

Incorrect. The Strength upgrades specifically say on page 39 of Disciples of Harmony that they can be activated multiple times.

Thought it was only 1 additional time, guess my reading-fu is fubared

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!
