Move Force power

By bblaney001, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

So the players in a game I'm in have confused me majorly.

They're convinced for each success (light side pip) beyond the first lets you add more magnitude additive.

For example, someone with strength 4, with a total of 3 lightside pips, would be able to move something of the magnitude of 12, which seems totally wrong.

1 pip to activate and the 2 additional give the strength upgrades 2 additional times.

I know they're wrong, but don't believe me.

If you mean silhoette they are partially correct. 1 pip to activate the base power. 1 pip to activate strength which lets them do up to sil4 and then the second pip lets them do sil8

Magnitude is number of targets. So if they have 2 magnitude upgrades they can move 4 sil0 objects.

Yeah I meant Strength, so they could conceivably, at a high enough FR and lucky enough move a small moon?

Does the same cover Range?

Seems rather broken.

Pretty much. If the character has all of the Strength upgrades, he can lift a Sil 4 object with one pip beyond the pip needed to activate the power. If he uses two pips, he can lift a Sil 8 object; three, a Sil 12, etc. and yes, this works with Range as well.

Well yes they could. Maybe

But i dont really see a way you could be close enough to do so. As extreme range in inside close. So you cant really get close enough. Also discipline check is based on silhouette. And until you have 3 force dice unteliable more so if avoiding conflict. If you spebd a destiny for the discipline check you cant flip for force pips

If you look in Developer Answered questions your will find this:

Then I have questions about range bands.

for example with Move Force Power.
1.) If you have the 3 range upgrades then you are at extreme range.
But if you activate the range upgrades again, does it then push into the vehicle / planetary range bands??

That’s up to you and your GM. Because range bands can be exponential, it probably makes sense to introduce some sort of cut-off at some point. I would suggest letting the power work at “close” planetary ranges, but probably no further than that (unless it’s an epic and extremely important scene where the fate of the campaign rests on your actions, then maybe the GM can let things go a bit wilder).

2.) Likewise if you use the strength upgrades to throw a silhouette 5 or more at extreme range... can you do that without crushing yourself?

Silhouette 5 is probably not big enough to cover everything from extreme range back to you. It also depends on the shape of the object and its orientation when thrown.

3.) Or would the entire silhouette land at for example extreme range?

Generally, most of it should land at extreme range, but again, when dealing with these more extreme uses of Force powers, there is always room for GM interpretation and license.

I hope that you can use it. :)

Your players are partially correct.

For Move, you can activate various upgrades (magnitude, range, strength) multiple times after the character has purchased them. Force & Destiny actually went out of the way to pretty much cite that unless an upgrade says otherwise, you can activate it multiple times. But if you've not purchased the upgrade in question, then it doesn't matter how many Force points you generate, you can't activate it.

So with Strength, if the character has purchased only one upgrade, then each Force point past the initial FPs needed (1 for base power, 1 for the Strength upgrade) lets them increase the max silhouette they can affect by one. As Daeglan cited, if the user has purchased three Strength upgrades, then each additional Force point spent towards the Strength upgrade lets the increase the max silhouette by 3; first FP spent towards the upgrade lets them affect up to Sil 3 objects, second FP spent towards the upgrade lets them affect Sil 6 objects, and so forth.

However, there is the matter of range, and I'd say that once you get past Silhouette 5, you're at a point where ranges are calculated using vehicle scale, which means that by strict RAW it can't be done as the power only goes out to extreme range. Sam's dev answer above pretty much says that going beyond extreme range is "only with the GM's permission."

This is how I understood it. When players would ask to throw star destroyers my response was only within extreme range so basically you can throw it down, right above your own head, which would kill you. This was of course a joke to say that nah it's not really possible with the limitations of the power. However, at the GM's discretion, why not allow for a really epic action from time to time? I just wouldn't make it the norm.

At a speed in which its impossible to move it.

Also range does not reach Planetary Scale so they can't even be in range of said Moon with powers.

It literally turns into a nope doesn't work scenario.
