~made even better when I knock out my fourth notable NYC event in the last year and a half all glory shall go to DC, in the end... gui%C3%B1o.gif

~ I should probably show you the trophy design before it is made, to make sure it suits your fancy.

Syd/Jay: I wasn't really referring to historical events, but the regionals _this_ year. I'm not saying the Midwest has it going on... but yeah. :)

Well, we'll just wait and see on that one.....

Waited. Saw. Epic fail......

After weeks of immense mental anguish, a comfirmed no last week by mathlete, and a confirmed no from rings today.... llorando.gif

~But there will be several future champs there I'm sure. We just need to get our butts out to Indy!

Going on?

~ you mean with some cows right? :-P

(It's fairly easy to win a game of thrones against livestock. But aren't there state statues against that sort of congress?)

This is the NY meta crying for your loss....can you hear us?

Not over my own sobs.....

Besides, mathlete and rings mostly affect the quality of our turnout. We'll still have the quantity which, last time I checked, this little wager is all about.

Can you imagine if the wager was based on the quality of turnout? You could just mail the banner to us now, and be done with it gran_risa.gif

Wait a minute here. Let's break down regionals turnout based on quality:

Greg and Luke were at MN.

Luke, Casey Galvan, and Adam DeWulf show up to Chicago.

I win the NYC melee, with last year's Black Friday champion (Paul) taking second.

I'm going to be at DC's, obviously, and Paul will make an appearance. twn2dn isn't too bad, either. (yes, that's a sideways jab at dan to step up his game for this weekend ;-) )

Same crowd for the NYC joust as DC, possibly adding sithlord.

Greg will be at MO, along with Kennon and Greg's friend Kevin (after last year's Worlds, I'm convinced that guy's pretty **** good at this game).

Longclaw lords over TN.

~Now, looking at the list, I hate to ask -- but without Mathlete or Rings, how exactly does this upcoming CA tournament even place on this list? :-P

(If that doesn't get you CA folk riled up to come to GenCon this year, I don't know what will. :-D )

~Well, I'm going to be there... enough said lengua.gif (er..... Pay no attention to those OCTGN tourney records of mine)

Before we have to listen to some Sinatra-esque jeremiad about how great a place it is... Aside from Paul's (what I'm sure Eric would describe as anomalous) win, how long has it been since Eric or Mainn _didn't_ win. Do we have to go back to the original days of Melnick, pre-smokebreak and game-ban?

We know you'll step up someday Stag, er.. Dragon Lord, we're just waiting to see if it'll be in this life, or the next. :)

Erick's Black Friday win is anomalous - I took it in 2007 and sithlord in 2008. So since the event went multi meta, three of the chanps were from NY.

Regionals: well - there non NY players have fared much better. Finite won last year, Regioansl were scattered in 2008 with Boston, Glen Burnie and Delaware all holding local events, butterball won in 2006 and again in 2007, Sonice won in 2005 (three years in a row of Harriburg domination) and dilandau.dl, a long gone player from the early MA meta won in 2005. NY has never had a Northeast regional winner.

For the record.

NYC didn't have one? what did I stay at a motel in hamilton for then that was 2 days long? and the one in DE wasn't really local (for me at least) as it was waaaaay down in the south at Braz's The Kid in Me, which as sadly closed.

Actually, don't forget that The Missouri Regional will also have Jeppedo (Fox) the winner of the 2007 Regional in these parts and one of last year's GenCon Joust top 4. That's right, half of the top 8 (2 of the top 4 in each event) last year were from our meta.

Hey I still have one of Mainn's cards that I haven't been able to return to him, if I bring that to the NYC Joust as a "relic" would that not boost our quality?

I've been giving some thought to just knocking on his door, on one hand nobody's been in contact with him for at least 6 months AFAIK, he might just want some privacy, on the other hand... I know he's just lazy when it comes to voicemail and if his site is down his email might not be active. (Sitting there collecting unread mail).

IDK - but it wasn't NY. They scattered the Regionals aorund teh NE that spring and none of them drew more than 12 players. I caught teh second day of teh glen burnie event - it was on a Sunday. Teh DE one seemed promising, but ti was nearly as far south as Glen burnie was and thinsg didn't work out. We definitely didn't run an event that year. Maybe you are thinking of '07?

I might be thinking of the first black friday that LGR ran....that was 2 days?

Ummmmm....either that or Black Friday. There was one year when Black Friday was a two day "Regional" event.

And last year - was the Kingsmoot/Regional two days? I don't think so. You're probably thinking of that Black Friday.

Black Friday IV (2008) was the last CCG era official regional to my knowledge, although I don't believe the winners received any special treatment at GenCon from it, and did span two days (joust on Friday with ~16 participants and melee on Saturday with ~12).
