The Ultimate Wager - San Francisco vs. New York City

By Syd, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

No, this wager is not to dispute the quality of art, culture, food, music or atmosphere between the two greatest cities in the country. San Francisco and New York have engaged in a much more profound competition.

Announcing the first cross-continental "Battle for the Banner." The Regional Joust Championship at Kublacon, and the Regional Joust Championship in NYC have engaged in a gentelman's wager. Whomever attracts the largest player turnout for their respective Regional will be awarded the opposing tournament's FFG Banner, signed by all the participants.

This thread is ABSOLUTELY meant for each side to taunt and harass the other. I'll get the ball rolling:

I have one request from the NYC camp. When you package your banner to ship to us, please roll it up and place it in a poster shipping container. We would like it to look pristine as we raise a glass and toast our victory.

Who else read "two greatest cities in the country" followed up by "San Francisco" and fell out of their chair laughing? Anywhoo...

Your request is noted, notwithstanding how moot it is. And I'll repeat mine from the other thread: Make sure you have plenty of fresh Sharpies on hand; I want the Kublacon players' signatures on your banner to be legible when we receive it.

(Ok, Northeast AGoT players, we need to see you at Kingsmoot in the East in June. Don't disappoint!)

And try to wire your names CLEARLY. We know you should be used to earthquakes, so no excuses about your floor rolling atound under you when you have to send your swag back East to civilization.

(Seriously NE players...LGR and I will be taking names for any who don't show up the the event....sithlord, no excuses about the new baby and being behind on CPs)

Please don't write you name clearly Stag Lord. Your name better be spelled incorrectly so we can be sure it came from you.

Well played West Coast Devils fan.

I should send you a signed Sean Avery card - but I don't want you to lose sleep.

Two most liberal cities in the country would have worked better... :) Although then Eugene Oregon would have been up in arms!

Sounds like fun. I am still 50/50 on Kubla...hopefully my attendence won't swing this :)

It's going to be a great kickoff to summer when we bring home the shiny new banner. You guys in NY will have all summer in your muggy, humid, heatstroke inducing city to nurse your wounds.

We'll be enjoying the cool evening breezes as they come up off the Bay. Which great body of water are you closest too, the Hudson or the East River?...both are such magisterial waterways bostezo.gif

The midwest feels left out. :(

50/50 for Kubla, but 0% for NYC...advantage West Coast!

And yes Rings, you should just consider yourself the swing vote.

~You're just jealous that we're closer to MadK's meat. Man it is SOOOOOOOOOO good!

San Fran guys, when you're sending the poster, can you make sure to pay a little extra for postage tracking? I don't want any of this "oh, I promise we really did send it" business. I know you'll be sad to see the nice poster go, but just be glad you didn't wager the playmat ;)

By the way, I'm not super picky about pen colors. Feel free to express yourselves San Fran...oranges and teals and whatnot.

Big words from someone who said "maybe I'll show up..." and then promptly disappeared from the discussion. Don't start trash talking if you aren't prepared to back it up!

I notice that SF and NY are deciding to go by pure attendance as their measure for "ultimate." I guess they were afraid they might have to compare to the IL or MO if they chose a "quality" measure.

~ Why are you worried about that Stag? With all the room they'll have on the banner....

Wait. When was I trash talking?! lol

Because I have to chime in somehow: ~SF versus NYC is all good and fine, but I'm pretty sure everyone's in agreement that the greatest overall city for AGOT is wherever I play on a regular basis. :-P

The reason the Midwest got left out can be explained quite simply. Since the East and West Coasters have primitive counting methods and their quantities will be few, it will be very easy to count their attendance simply by using the fingers on their two hands. Comparing an attendance of 8 versus and attendance of 7 can be accomplished using their kindergarten techniques.

But since the Springfield, Missouri regional will be far exceeded the a count of ten fingers, we aren't a good candidate for wagers with the East and West Coasters. We don't want to confuse them.

~I intend to count finite as two participants -one for him and another for his *huge* ego (which, annoyingly, he can back up with his play).

I'm sorry, are you feeling left out?

I can't speak for Syd, but I'd be willing to opening this banner challenge to the mid-west Regional's Saturday joust attendance. That just means two banners for NY to collect -one... two..., yep, just checked my math using my fingers and two is right.

I'll chip in w/ a Carcillo card. (and LGR should be thanking the Devils for allowing the Bruins to coast into the Eastern Conference Finals....)

Does the total count include those at the melee (may 16th) who don't make the joust?

Is it too soon/optimistic to hope for a Bruins/Habs Eastern finals?

Melee attendance doesn't count (it was discussed, but abandoned).

But I'm concerned here, are you implying that you won't be making the joust?

no implications, was just wondering.

Ironically I won't be at the melee (don't think we have any that will) but I will be at the joust.

As long as it's a hockey card and not a card with Avery dressed up in designer shoes holding his "man purse" and commenting about how much he prefers women's clothing.

And Carcillo looks like a pirate. Pirates are cool....

Maybe cha0s and Syd can send you guys pictures of themselves with Lord Stanley's Cup after the Sharks go all the way? I know it's not the same as the Devils winning another cup, but it should do.

~I'm not sure it would be such a good idea to let the Midwest guys in on this little wager. I mean, don't they have the big advantage? We all know there is absolutely NOTHING to do in the Midwestern US. They can confirm this, but don't they usually get 40-50 drop-ins to their tournaments from people just meandering down the street, looking for a few hours to occupy their otherwise dull existence?

But honestlyif the Midwest wants to get in on this...I would be down to include them. When is your Joust Missouri? Does Ktom want to get in on this as well?

I agree, there is no way that two hands will be sufficient to count the Midwest numbers. ~Shoot, I don't think I have met a single person from Missouri with more than eight fingers anyway.

~But that doesn't matter; they count with their toes. That's why they don't wear shoes.
