Oh yeah, I meant at the new points level, which in general appears to be 500. I'm excited for more big ships! But the wings look so cool, I probably won't devote most of my squad to huge ships. Okay, so realistically I'll try both!

I am legitimately more excited for this than for any of the previous releases in 2.0.

I have 9 T-65 models and 14 Tie/ln models and at least 4 each of 4 or 5 others to go with 1 each of the Huge models. I've been dying to get these on the table together for ages.

Yeah there are new maneuvers and that is the 3 banks the 5 straight and the 0 stop. Also the dials are color coordinated much like normal dials so I am guessing blue will add an energy while red will take away energy.

I know this is a joyous occasion, but is anybody bothered that they used the word "wing" (~60 craft, 3 squadrons, IRL) for what is actually a "flight" (3-6 craft IRL)?

Eh. Star Wars can be whatever it wants. Air Force wings include all sort of variety in a Wing, and are different across organizations.

It just would have been so easy for them to just call it a flight instead. Still just a 1-syllable word, still easily recognizable to lay people. Just feels like somebody at FFG could've taken 5 minutes to check wikipedia for what the correct word is.

That is just the echelon which is used for organization sort of like the difference between a regiment, a battalion and a platoon.

Flights are sections within a squadron only a few planes depending on the mission. Squadrons also vary greatly in size depending on what type of plane and also readiness level of the unit. One EW squadron of EA6B Prowler VMAQ-2 had only several aircraft (more of a flight). Squadrons are composed entirely of one aircraft.

Above Squadrons are Groups which is more of an administrative unit. Generally for MCAS each base had its own group and all the squadrons that were stationed there were part of that group. Groups tend to have an additional logistics unit (which was where I was usually at). When a squadron deploys it was usually detached from that group and then attached to a group in a more forward station.

Above Groups were Wings and wing was a theater level unit sort of like Division level or Theater level unit. All MCAS groups on the east coast were part of 2nd MAW.

I’m excited. I own a Rebel Transport and a C-ROC that have never seen table time, and the ability to fly them in casual games is going to change that fast!

A couple months ago I found a marked-down Gozanti at one of my local shops, but I couldn’t justify getting it because I already have two idle Epics. Last I checked, it’s still there. Might be time to pull the trigger...

So, a couple things I noticed that I haven't noticed others mentioning yet:

1. Ordnance Tubes now grant bonus attacks for torpedoes and missiles.

2. C-ROC includes proximity mines, implying it can equip devices.

I'm not sure what to think about (2), there, but (1) seems like another way in which huge ships become more viable - if you're tying up that many points in a single ship, at least it has the ability to fire more than once. Combine that with the likely possibility of being able to perform two actions per turn, and you're looking at something that should be able to have both a lock and a focus token for firing ordnance.

I seriously hope they found a way to streamlike playing Epic. the Wing system may help, but all I remember about Epic is that it was boring as ****.

Totally agree. Even in Star Wars, it appears that Flight < Squadron < Wing. However, there is one HUGE advantage to calling them "wings": you can use the term "wingmate" and it's intuitive that a "wingmate" is in a "wing" flying in formation with the "wing leader." That kind of simplicity in terminology is worth something, I think. I may even use the word elegant, even though it's not technically accurate.

I started at my local store when it was just 3 of us. Local Facebook group now has over 200. I have gotten a lot if people into the game and nothing pulls people in more than a ton of Star Wars ships on the table, with cool terrain, and huge ships.

This is the game where all ships are viable and have a role, not just a bunch of high Init aces circling each other in a death match. Welcome, to the game of X-wing!

Before, you fires as much as you had energy. The huge ships now seem able to equip Cannons, Turrets, and mines. I am thinking that you will be able to fire all if it in one turn, if you can. I think this will definitely help make the bigger ships more relevant to the game. That, and the fact that their shields can go higher will make them last a but longer. I believe they looked at what was really wrong with huge ships and fixed it....much like the rest of 2nd Edition.

Not convinced they are shooting every weapon every round, though that’d be nice for sure. Give me an excuse to load up the huge ships more than I normally do.

I want to know how the energy mechanic is back - it’s clearly on the counter tracker tool. No evidence of how you get it from the dial. Could be a fixed resource you spend or you slowly generate back up. Maybe it’s tied to blue moves? We’ll have to see.

Agree on wanting to know more about Energy....and everything else.

I think that you can probably fire your non-hard point weapons as much as you want. I am pretty sure hard point weapons will take energy. The main guns on the old ships would fire without energy. Why? Because what are you getting to fire? Some R1-2 Turrets and a forward facing Cannon. We are talking Dorsal Turrets and Ion Cannons firing at things that are super close to the ship. Maybe one or two of them on a ship....getting those extra shots per round....if someone is in range. Is that really broken? Or the Cannons, too. HLC will probably get to shoot more often on a crowded field and get the 4 dice, but you still have to be in Bullseye arc. The rest of them are rather underwhelming. Ion Cannon is probably the nastiest as it then allows you to run that guy over! Tractor Beam could allow one ship to become a target and be shot at, but that's not too nasty. Just think of all the free Jamming Beams you will get to fire!

I do think that you will have to watch out what you load up on the Huge ships. The most expensive Cannons and Turrets will be 5 or 6 points, but pretty situational. You start putting other things on your ship and it starts to get into the range of perhaps adding in another small ship for those points. You have to balance the worth. I do think that Dorsal Turrets will probably be awesome on the Huge ships for only 3 pts. Ion will be nice, but costly. It could be kind of interesting for some ships. I always liked a Gozanti that had Single Turbo Laser to snipe at other Huge ships, but it was in trouble if it had snub nosed fighters get close. Now you can give it something to defend itself a little bit. I mean, a Dorsal Turret isn't going to scare off a Tie Fighter, but it might get a lucky hit in.

Did I mention I was excited for all this yet?

Really excited about this. I converted the original 3 expansions but haven't played a game in about a year since Legion came out. This will get me playing again, at least casually.

Vader can soak up 15 damage into his wingmen, so he's virtually guaranteed to stick around to the endgame. And as the TIEs pop, Sloane punishes the attackers with double-stress and passive mods. Three defenders run around and wreak havoc, also making a monster in the endgame. Makes for very difficult target-priority decisions and punishes the "correct" choices handily.

A B-Wing Wing to destroy huge ships or control the aces, an X-Wing Wing to evaporate everything else with Torpedoes, and a U-Wing for evades, passive mods, and coordinate. And when you've got 500 points to play with, a 24-point upgrade on your endgame piece starts to seem trivial.

Now, how would these squads fare against each other? I hope to find out before too long...
