You do need this to play epic battles (but it's only $25 and looks amazing ).

However, you can field huge ships in a 200-pt game and get a balanced experience, or so they say, though I don't believe they will be supported for standard OP tournaments, so it's not like you can't play with them without getting Epic Battles.

For myself, I plan on getting Epic Battles though I'm not sold on the huge ships (yet...).

Well, not everyone plays in organized play you know. Fly casual and do what you want! The point is, huge ships should be correctly costed for their impact options on the game. So no, you don’t need epic battles to fly huge ships.

But you’ll want to. It is too much fun.

I am super stoked for this - I am in for huge ship conversion box and the epic battles box right away. It’s time for alternate win conditions and scenario modes to come to xwing!

For the record, I've never played in an Organized Play event, and though I have no objection to it and think it could be fun, I have no specific plans to do so in the foreseeable future.

I'm a filthy casual, but a very competitive one!

Guys... I need a new pair of pants.

At $25, I'm going to say this is the best deal EVER. And not just cuz I personally love Epic.

You are buying into an entirely new way to enjoy your toys. It's like a whole new game for less than the price of a Core Set.

This..... is what I've been waiting for since roughly 1980. I just didn't know it until now.

What ships can be in wings??? I HAVE TO KNOW!!!!

And I need ALL THE X-WING PILOTS!! I need Corran in an X-Wing and Ibtisam in an X-wing, and Tycho in an X-Wing, and Hobbie needs to come back, and Plourr and D'llr and Nrin and Asyr and Nawara Ven and Inyri and Myn Donner and Face Loran.....

Give me ALL the X-Wing pilots and let me put them on the board in formation. Then I can die a happy man!

Based on visible quick builds, I would... really doubt it. C-ROC quick build is 5 threat and the Raider is 8, and neither seems all that tricked out. I'm guessing the costs will be similar but the power level would have been brought up to par. Notably, the large ships can actually FOCUS now.

Also wondering if the 2x means maybe they can do the same action twice? Curious.

The article says that the threat limit can be higher, unless that's not what you were getting at.

"Many allow you to exceed the squad-building restrictions placed on other games of X-Wing , giving you the chance to build massive 500-point or 20-threat squadrons. "

I like you. You have good tastes. I miss Asyr and Nawara. Might need to go back and read those books for the 4th time.

Getting the conversion kit, (don't need the models, I am running out of storage space). Well at least I can retire my Scum conversion kit for the GR-75 (it was still in 1st edition). At least they got the alliance set up alright so the 4 new factions can still have their huge ships so I won't have to make conversion kits for those (which is good I don't have the setup for any paper crafting anymore).

Speaking of which I am going to update my Allies and Mercenaries Format, also make an addendum for huge ships. Which also brings the question are they updating the app for epic as well?

Pretty sure the generic allows any small ship as long as you have enough of them.

6x TIE Defenders? (Ouch the cost)

6x Passive Proton N-1s? (Pricey but will alpha your face off)

6x TIE Silencers! (Or Kylo + 2x TIE/sf like in the movie!)

6x HLC B-WINGS! (Just dunk that capital ship out of space)

Unkillable Vader + 5 for an endgame nightmare

This is just SO different from 1.0 Epic and SO MUCH BETTER.

My friends always want to play 400+pt games which typically look dumb to me (they still play 1.0). THIS makes me want to play with them again.

He was asking about 1 raider vs 2 CR-90s in 200-pt games. I was saying not likely.

Unless I misunderstood him in the first place. I bet those would be possible in 2.0 Epic.

Man, I bet the devs have learned a lot about balancing vastly disparate ship sizes from Armada's SSD. This has me so crazy excited to try it out I just bought a Gozanti 😛

If you ran 6 1.0 silencers in formation that would look so hilarious 😂

All of this. I have really an embarrassing number of Rebel and Imperial ships (scum and FO are fast approaching those levels too...).

This lets me get at least a larger percentage of them on the table.

Someday I want to play my full Imp collection against my full Rebel collection just to see what happens. Probably would require a bigger space than 3x6 though. And probably would need at least a half dozen wings for each side...

Just thinking about it, what about Tomax plus 5 bombers, all with Proton Torpedoes? Could they all lock the same target at I5? That sounds crazy good. How would ordnance carriers not just evaporate things?

And what happens in case of bump ? What if the wing leader fully execute his maneuver but not one of his wingmen ?

Can TIE/ln execute 1 straight with a X1 leader ?

And not sure it is a time saver : try to remove the wing tool without moving the ships... 🙄

I'll admit, I am a bit disappointed. I was expecting less scenarios in a box, in exchange for those scenarios to come with fun, scenario-specific models. Of course, the price point more than makes up for it (and such props could always come in the future).

I think what maybe gets to me the most is that I've been away from the game again for awhile at this point, and this isn't quite enough to excite me for an immediate return? But just to clarify, this is totally a personal feeling and is not a judgment on the product or announcement.

That might change when I see more, though, because this otherwise sounds like it's what I was hoping it would be. The Wing system might finally encourage me to use more ships, and the potential upgrades for that seem promising.

Also, while it never ruined the game for me, just a handful of ships zooming around a mandatory asteroid field always seemed weird to me, so some of these scenarios might reignite the Star Wars feel for me.

At a guess ... or more than one guess:

1. The wingman has to drop out of the formation.

2. Good question.

3. You may not need to remove the tool unless you have multiple wings of the same size. Move the leader, place the tool, place the wingmen. Next round, repeat.

It sounded like only the Wing leader's maneuver's matter. The leader moves, and then everyone else is just placed using the tool and the formation they're in.

I'm not sure about wingmen dropping out of formation on bumps, unless I missed something in the article, or unless you just mean temporarily. The whole point of the Wing system is to simplify movement when there are so many ships in play. But with so many ships, bumping is going to be even more common. It would defeat the purpose of simplifying movement if two Wings ran into each other in such a way that, for example, separated the Wing into four independent ships on both sides and two ships still in formation. That would get hard to keep track of fast.

Great stuff. I really don't like some of the ship names though. If I want to fly my rebel transport, no matter what scenario I try to come up with, they always have to be "Hoth guys" from that specific engagement? Ugh 😣

Whooot!

Much to explore here, but I really hope to god they have made balanced scenarios with high replay value (the 1st ed ones were very shifting in quality) cause that's their one chance to show that Epic scenarios and/or Huge ships are FUN, and that there are other engaging things, not just boring 400pts circling 6 objects try to kill more points in x minutes than your 1 opponent.

----

Huge conversion sounds fantastic, need to trade, though; as I have 2 Rebel transports, 1 Croc, 1 Gozanti, but none of the larger ones.

Oh and no blue line on the C-Roc ;)

82 cards, thats massive.

Cikatro is probably pi55ed that Azmorigan (wtf, Azomrigan came over as quite incompetent, while Vizago was actually smart) is commander, but he is not.

As for the other commanders, non-OT factions seem to get generic Stalwart Cpt, Strategic Cmd.

-----

There seem to be single dot swarm leaders ("servant of the Empire" with Vader pic, First Order Elite, while Resistance(?) Dreadnough hero(?) seems to have 2 dots, and then the generic(?) dot-less veteran wing leader.

So for mixed sqds using the tools are probably more restricted (dots), while you can have many single type sqds.

Thank goodness.

And it seems the effort should pay off, if a these threads are any indication of the excitement generated.
