Separatists Non-swarm

By S36637, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hello, I was hoping for some suggestions on my lists. I recently just ran the following list with a couple wins using Maul to go right in for the attack and taking full advantage of the struts on droids while Grievous flanked but I am not sure what to do with the extra few points. Bombers might be better than the vultures? Or maybe giving Maul some bombs to drop?

Maul Grievous

(44) General Grievous [Belbullab-22 Starfighter] (4) Impervium Plating (6) Outmaneuver (6) Soulless One Points: 60

(67) Darth Maul [Sith Infiltrator] (10) Count Dooku (9) Hate Points: 86

(19) Trade Federation Drone [Vulture-class Droid Fighter] (5) Energy-Shell Charges (1) Grappling Struts Points: 25

(19) Trade Federation Drone [Vulture-class Droid Fighter] (5) Energy-Shell Charges (1) Grappling Struts Points: 25

Total points: 196

The second list is something I haven't flown yet but I plan on trying out next, the dark courier with dooku will let him or a ship at range 0-2 have a guaranteed crit or evade every time since his force is 1 and will be full each turn.

3 big

(67) Darth Maul [Sith Infiltrator] (9) Hate Points: 76

(51) Dark Courier [Sith Infiltrator] (10) Count Dooku Points: 61

(44) General Grievous [Belbullab-22 Starfighter] (6) Soulless One (6) Outmaneuver (4) Impervium Plating Points: 60

Total points: 197

Appreciate any suggestions, thanks!

So, haven't flown Separatists too much, but I have flown two squads that were similar to your first option. I wouldn't necessarily suggest giving up your vutures as I feel like there's a lot of utility there, but what I might suggest is dropping either Grievous or Maul in favor of adding one more vulture and upping whichever one you keep. Maybe you could even upgrade your vultures too. I would either do that or find a way to spread the upgrades between your two big boys a bit better as right now it feels like you're using Grievous pretty well, but aren't really fulfilling Maul's potential.

Ive been flying this with sucess. Looking in to some bomber options atm. Also the probes been really rewarding.

Plasma Torpedoes (9)
Total: 198

One i am looking forward to giving a go.

It’s probably worth getting the probes if you’re going for so many torpedoes. Looks really fun otherwise :)

My MGD (Maul/Grievous/Dooku) list currently drops Grievous' talent down to Crack Shot, for Scimitar on the Dark Courier, and Shield Upgrade on Darth Maul, but otherwise pretty similar. I flew it once before the Adjustment when it was Dooku pilot, and Grievous couldn't afford any upgrades except Crack Shot. Seems OK, not sure if it's for me.

One ship I've enjoyed tossing into non-swarm lists, however, is DFS-311 with Grappling Struts and no other upgrades. Place the biggest rock at just inside Range 3 from the edge, deploy DFS-311 to fly directly onto it with a 5-straight, and just be a Calculate Support Bot. Feels really worth it for 24 points. While you're on the rock, you'll get the extra defense die, too.

Another thought: for small numbers of Vulture Droids, I wonder if Precise Hunters without Missiles might be better than Init 1 Trade Federation Drones with ESC. Init 3 helps them not-die before shooting, and the bullseye reroll will add punch in close-in fighting.

I like the idea of DFS with struts as support. Maul and Grievous are my favorites and a fully loaded Grievous has always been my best attack ship in the faction. I really like having Maul out there for taking some hits while Grievous gets around to shoot with his upgrades. I feel like the droids lose all their power after shells are down and I believe they just had a rules change so you are disarmed if you reload now? Anyway I am gonna be flying some more Hatchetman while I figure out what to do with my Separatists!
