Delayed waves vs Proxy cards for international tournament.

By Chtimi_NRS, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Burning question :

VF (french) Wave 4 Pre-order (Hyena / Naboo / Resistance transport) are done but nothing will arrived before September...

Exceptionaly, could we use wave 4 proxy cards for international tournament ? Like Paris System Open... (July)

Check with the organisers, but, be prepared for the answer to be no.

To add a bit of context here :

The French releases are a giant mess. Waves after waves we are having delayed waves, missing ships in the waves (no 2nd edition reprint for new players), we are missing a lot of the OP kits and nothing seems to be done to fix the situation.

The issue is due to massive communication problems between FFG France/Edge (the editor/translator) and Asmodee (the distributor). Some games are just not translated anymore. They are killing the fan base here but they just don't care at all.

And now there is the Paris open coming. And the wave 4 is releasing everywhere in the world on July 12th, except in France where it will be available in August. So we, French people, will be facing European competitors without the new content available for us.

This is a bit saddening. :(

I would contact Vince Kingston and Alec Thorne and ask them directly. They have made allowances for issues in the past.

Could you get English Language ones - they'd be legal...

From a legal perspective, any currently-legal cards, cardboard, and ships (no matter the language), would be acceptable for play in any region. So yes, players could use English, or German, or Spanish, or Russian, or any language they were able to acquire, with a properly-translated version for local play.

From a practical perspective, obtaining those cards could be a costly prospect, for something you're likely to not want to keep in the long run anyway. That's not necessarily a fair requirement to place upon players, who should have an equal opportunity to access new materials, as their opponents have.

Ultimately, though, as described above... it comes down to the Marshall and tournament organizers, whether or not to allow certain proxies for the event.

FFG OP Europe has just posted this, in their Facebook feed for the Paris Open:

WAVE 4

We've been informed that wave 4 will not be released in France in time for it to be legal for the X-Wing System Open. As France is the host country and Wave 4 is the most current product released, our policy in situations like this is that the Wave will NOT be legal for the event. This should put all players on a level playing field for the event and remove any competitive disadvantage from players who have not had access to Wave 4.

SHIP PROXIES (2019 SOS FRANCE ONLY)

The Resistance RZ-2 A-Wing and Republic ARC-170 have not been released in France. We will make a special exception to allow proxies for those players who have been unable to borrow or source English language versions of the ships. With this in mind, here is what we are allowing For this event ONLY.

**RZ-2 A-Wing**
* Ship models can be proxied using the Rebel RZ-1 A-Wing

* Ship tokens can be proxied using a Ship token that has the same Initiative value as the Resistance pilot. Remember that the RZ-2 has a turret indicator and this will need to be present - The marshall will need to be shown this before registration to ensure accuracy

* RZ-1 manoeuvre Dials from the Rebel Conversion Kit can be used to proxy RZ-2 manoeuvre Dials

* Pilot Cards can be printed and used as a proxy - The marshall will need to be shown this before registration to ensure accuracy

**Republic ARC-170 Starfighter**
* Ship models can be proxied using the Rebel ARC-170

* Ship tokens can be proxied using a Ship token that has the same Initiative value as the Republic pilot but MUST have a printed rear firing arc. The Initiative 2 pilot can be proxied using an Initiative 2 Bounty Hunter (Firespray) ship token - The marshall will need to be shown this before registration to ensure accuracy

* ARC-170 Maneuver Dials from the Rebel Conversion Kit can be used to proxy the Republic ARC-170 manoeuvre dials.

* Pilot Cards can be printed and used as a proxy - The marshall will need to be shown this before registration to ensure accuracy

Each ship will require a unique ID Token that correctly matches up with the pilot card.

If you are proxying any ship during the tournament, the marshall will need to be shown this before registration to ensure accuracy.

Once approved, before the start of each match, you are to clearly explain to your opponent what each proxied ship represents.

Thanks Asmodee France. Now nobody can play wave 4. What a fix ! This is hilarious.
