the-stewards-sm.pngHello and Welcome Back, Loyal A Game of Thrones Fans!

We hope you've been enjoying the Defenders of the North cycle as it's been rolling out and that you've had plenty of opportunity to build new, cool, and thematic decks. As those of you who have been paying attention have probably noticed, in this expansion there has been plenty of Trait-based card interactions, especially around the Night's Watch and Wildling traits. There is still more coming in the last two packs of this expansion (including The Stewards from A King in the North, pictured), and on into the future with Brotherhood Without Banners. But before we get too far ahead of ourselves, we just wanted to let you know that Lords of Winter will be on its way very soon and to celebrate its release we thought we would let out another card or two.

robb-stark-sm.pngTo start, we present the card that lends its name (or nickname, rather) to the title of this week's preview: Ladies and Gentlemen, a new Robb Stark! We mention the Trait-based interactions above because, as you can see, Robb here presents a Trait booster that we think will fit right in to your "tribal" decks. Notice that Robb does not have the limitation of being "House Stark Only"; granted, at 6 cost out of House, Robb is more expensive than some armies, but with Alliance (Princes of the Sun, F59) he could be a boon to your Ironborn, your Dothraki, or your Asshai, as well as your House Tullys or Direwolves.

Moreover, this King Robb doesn't care whether there are other Kings in play, unlike his previous incarnation (Kings of the Sea, F33), but that doesn't stop him making a nuisance of himself to several characters with the last name Baratheon, among others. The fact that he is a King also makes him conveniently accessible to his lady, Jeyne Westerling (A Song of Summer, F6).

Finally, because Robb is a warlord, as well as a monarch, his ability comes into play without him having to kneel, so he can ride in alongside his warriors in Military or Power challenges. (Or, if you're holding a Distinct Mastery, both!)

frozen-solid-sm.pngThat's a lot of awesome for one guy to have packed onto his shoulders, but we think he can handle it. Aside from Robb Stark's royal boost to House Stark, another card will be coming out with this set to make the Lords of Winter a little stronger: Frozen Solid.

As you can see, House Stark gets some more love as this cheap little attachment now renders locations blank and useless. Fortunately it can't choke off your gold supply (as most gold locations are limited), but your "effect" locations have now been given a good kicking. Goodbye Iron Throne, goodbye Bear Island, goodbye Alchemist's Guild Hall. The fact that it also renders attachment's dead in the water is another nasty bonus. Fortunately this card is House Stark only, otherwise everybody would be using it; even so, beware of it jumping out at you from your next Stark opponent.

So there you have it: some nice spoilers from the hot (or wintery cold, if you like) new expansion coming to your Friendly Local Game Store very soon. We hope you enjoy it, or, if you don't like Stark, we hope you find some sneaky ways to beat the House of the Wolf.

Until next time!

Bonus Question: What is your favorite anti-Stark technique? Given that House Stark will be getting a boost with the Lords of Winter expansion, what do you intend to do to bring them down? Alternately, will you forswear your allegiance to your chosen House, throw down your banners, and join the Young Wolf? Discuss here in the comments or on the A Game of Thrones forums!
