FFG Live reveals from Clone Wars Core Set

By manoftomorrow010, in Star Wars: Legion

Since they're all over the place on the other thread, here they are in one place:

  • RELEASE DATE: "Late third quarter."
  • RELEASE INFO: There will not be a Heavy unit for each faction released within the same window of time as we got the AT-ST and T-47, but they said heavies for each faction will be on the way .
  • Surge tokens are not actions . They are only given out by other abilities (command cards, upgrades, etc.). You may use Surge tokens on attack, defense, and while using Guardian.
  • Scale is not an action . Alex said it is always on, and thus applies whenever Grievous moves.
  • Grievous's pistol armament: Melee - Range 2 : 2 Black 2 White. Critical 1, Pierce 1, Versatile. (12 points).
  • Versatile means the weapon can be added to a melee dice pool, or can be used to shoot at a target at range, while you are engaged with another unit in melee. (Arsenal 2, Greivous could melee 1 unit and shoot at another with the pistol; or add the pistol to his melee dice pool)
  • Ion affects droids. They will lose 1 action per Ion token.
  • Suppression does not affect droids same as it does non-droid units. They will not lose actions and do not gain cover. Droids can become panicked due to Suppression tokens, however.
  • Aggressive Tactics gives out Surge tokens when a unit is issued an order. 10 points/maximum of 4 surges given out.
  • Hope (Force; Light Side Only) (3 points) You gain Inspire 1.
  • Disengage means you may exit a melee/engagement with only a normal move (standard move, any move, was unclear, but I think it just means you can freely move out as if the opposing unit was not there).
  • Fire Support can be used even if a unit would panic during its activation. A sneaky way to get around panicking. When using fire support, everything (cover, LOS to minis, surge) is determined by the parent unit, the one performing the actual attack. If the parent unit has surge to hit/crit, then the entire pool has surge to hit/crit.
  • Wheeled is a free action at the start of activation only.
  • Phase I Clone Trooper Heavy Upgrade, DC-15 : Range 1-4. 2 Red, Critical 1 . (30 points).
  • Phase I Clone Trooper Heavy Upgrade, Z-6: Range 1-3. 6 White . (25 points).
  • B-1 Battle Droids Heavy Upgrade, E-SC: Range 1-3. 3 Black. (18 points).
  • B-1 Battle Droids Heavy Upgrade, E60-R (Rocket Launcher): Range 2-4: 1 Red, 2 Black, Impact 2 . (Exhausts; 20 points).

General Grievous Command Cards

Trained in Your Jedi Arts (1 pip)
General Grievous
General Grievous gains Disengage and 1 dodge token. At the end of his activation he may perform an attack against each enemy unit at range 1 using the following weapon: Melee/Range 1: 1R 2b 1W Suppressive, Versatile.

Supreme Commander (2 pip)
2 Troopers

General Grievous gains 1 Surge token for each other friendly trooper unit at range 1. While another friendly trooper unit has a faceup order token, it gains Guardian 2 and can use Guardian during a melee attack.

Crush Them (3 pip)
Grievous and 2 Units

When General Grievous issues an order to a unit, that unit gains 1 surge token for each defeated enemy unit.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Command Cards

Hello There! (1 pip)
Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi gains Nimble . At the start of the Activation Phase, Obi-Wan Kenobi gains 1 aim, 1 dodge, 1 standby, or 1 surge token for each enemy unit at range 1-2.

Knowledge and Defense (2 pip)
2 Troopers

Obi-Wan Kenobi gains 1 dodge token for each other friendly trooper unit at range 1. Obi-Wan Kenobi can use Guardian during a melee attack.

General Kenobi (3 pip)
Obi-Wan Kenobi and 2 Units

When Obi-Wan Kenobi issues an order to a unit, that unit gains 1 surge token for each other friendly unit at range 1 of it.

I think that was everything I got.

wheeled is a free action at the start of the turn only (can't back into standing mode after it moves)
so with fire support, what ever is the parent unit (the primary unit attacking) everything is determine from them, also if the parent unit has surge and the fire support unit doesn't then the entire attack pool has surge
also if the unit would normally have a chance to panic that round it can still shoot that round using fire support.
also cover and how many minis can be killed is determine from parent unit (say the fire support unit can clearly see the defender and all minis but the primary unit can't then it will be heavy cover and only kill what the parent unit can see)

Bummer on not having heavies pretty much out of the gate... maybe we'll get special forces and another commander sooner rather than later.

Aggressive Tactics is 10 points. Caps at 4 surges given out.

Added those! Thanks, I forgot about those Fire Support details!

There’s the DC 15 (2 red range 1-4) for the Clones @ 30 points and Z-6 @ 25 points.

Then there’s the E-SC battle droid (3 black range 1-3) @ 18 points. And the E-60R battle droid (1 red 2 black range 2-4 Impact 2 taps) @ 20 points.

DC-15 also has Critical 1 irrc !

Argh, they’re making it hard to stay out of the Clone Wars. But I barely get games in anymore as is.

I don’t see Hope in the card pack though :( Luke really wants that.

I think it was implied by Alex (maybe Luke) that there would be units coming for Civil War that had this stuff "pretty soon."

Kanan, Maybe?

I would just proxy the darn card if it was only available via Clone Wars or a Kanan unit honestly. I don’t want to buy a mini I won’t use for a card, and I’m not playing Legion at any OP events.

I could be tempted by an old Obi-Wan rebel operative (don’t see him leading an army so much as supporting) on the other hand.

I'd love to see an Old Obiwan too!

I suspect the cards will be rare at first and the next thing you know, you'll have so many you don't even remember where you keep them all. :D

Disappointed in the "late Q3" release date. I immediately thought "****, so September" on that. Guess my long standing prediction of August was wrong. Not overly pleased with them not releasing a heavy on release either, though the promise of getting them shortly thereafter, with new announcements by the Hyperspace Report if not before is encouraging.

I bet if folks buy multiple core sets for Clone Wars, you could find someone to send you an extra copy!

Looking at what they included in the first upgrade card pack, there aren't any of the Light Side Only and Dark Side Only Force cards in there, so I bet they continue that strategy.

It is a bummer, and funny since the card itself really refers to Luke haha

By not releasing heavy at once, they give them more time to play test and prevent having a heavy that is too overcosted for what it does.

Possibly. I’m not too worried about having to proxy though. Maybe if the cost is nominal. Don’t misunderstand - if life changes permit lots of game time I could see buying Clone Wars as I do enjoy the era. I just have a lifetime of content currently at my existing rate of play and the handful of things coming/released that I have left to pick up.

I dare say if both core sets had dropped at the same time back last year, I probably would have gone Clone Wars for the republic.

Oh absolutely, I have been buying both factions and haven't even played Empire once :) But the painting and stuff is just fine with me for the purchase. Once I finish my home terrain, I'll be playing a lot more battles at home, outside of the league, which is my only option to play against other people haha

If both core sets had come out at the same time, I 100% would've bought the Clone Wars one, and that may have caused me to skip the GCW material entirely lol probably would've been better on my wallet, but I'm glad I got all this time to learn to paint minis and play the game, and learn to make terrain, etc.

I know that I likely would have skipped over the GCW era completely if both had been options from the get go. Nothing agains the GCW, but coming from an old EU fan, the GCW always seemed more focused on large scale space battles and minor ground skirmishes compared to the Clone Wars epic and often convoluted ground battles. Heck, my initial plan was to pass over the original core set, and just wait until they started doing CW era stuff, but the game looked too good to pass up. My present issues with releases aside, I'm glad I jumped in.

I was buying only empire for a while, but went back and started to fill in rebels because I wanted a thematic game table (that and some of their new minis were pretty cool).

I’ve played Rebels once.... after a few more purchases I’ll try them again. Gotta catch them up. I have nothing new for Rebels newer than commandos, and prior to grabbing Bossk I had nothing newer than specialists for empire. New corps, new heavies, and some more SF for the Rebels are a must for my collection.
