What expansion should I buy first? In pure content

By Redblock, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Have the base game, and loving it, now thinking about giving myself birthday present and buy an expansion, but with lots of diferent ones its hard to choose.

I need to get bigest amount of content in one box, so not very interested in small ones, and from what i seen about big Insmouth looks very tempting (most interesting crew of investigators, and backstories, I'm roleplayer at heart) but need expert opinion on this.

Innsmouth have no new items and it only adds 4 cards per location of Arkham.

Defintely go with Dunwihch. You will get less Investigators and Ancients ones, but overall it's the most bang for your buck:

*4 Ancient Ones and 8 Investigators

*Lots and lots of new items: Common, Unique, Spells, Allies and Skills

*7 cards per arkham location, nearly doubling the location decks

*Injuries and Madnesses- hailed by everyone as one of the most important core mechanics in the game

*The best selection of new monsters

*And ofcours: new gate cards, mythos cards and a new board with a cool mechanic that is very well done with just the base game

But it's up to you really- if you're more into storytelling and RPG elements than game elements, get Innsmouth, the Personal Stories are great (not that it doesn't have game elements, but in much smaller quantities than Dunwich)

If you're looking for the biggest amount of content within a single box, then hands down, you'll want to go with Dunwich Horror. While Innsmouth DOES have more investigators and ancient ones than any other expansion, it has no new items or spells. The Innsmouth board is a blast though. Probably the best designed in my opinion. Go with Dunwich first, and then if you get the hankering for more, Innsmouth would be a great second buy.

Dunwich first, Innsmouth second (for the reasons already mentioned).

oh yeah, definitely dunwich or innsmouth. plus they're fun, and not just content. but if you're looking for something way easier, look for the kingsport big box expansion. or any small box expansion.

Kingsport is way harder than Dunwich...

The Kingsport AOs are, the expansion itself not so much.

I disagree. The Kingsport board's mechanic is always active and will pretty much force you to send an investigator there every game, and parting from investigator for Kingsport duty is quite a heavy price.

Right, three open rifts is effectively worse than three Dunwich Horrors. However, rifts are much easier to prevent. With the DH you need to kill (possibly difficult) monsters, and then the DH itself if it shows up. With rifts, you just have to stroll from place to place to prevent them, and then investigators can tag-team if they need to to close a rift back up again.

Certainly Epic Battle adds a boost to difficulty, but as far as difficulty as an only expansion, the extra unstable locations pushes Dunwich over the top.
