I think the “TIE Punisher stats” and “Officers on squadrons” are two separate ideas, really. Both are interesting and (to me) worth serious consideration. I mean, I don’t know why squadrons with officer slots should be unique to the Punisher, and if that were to be a thing at all, perhaps it should be a new and different kind of upgrade distinct from officers for ships.

It is not unique to the Punisher. I just made these cards (the Punisher), and i thought about upgrade slots on squadrons. The Punisher was just the first one that came into my mind. Shuttle would have been better, but there is already the Shuttle. And i wanted to make a new card.

I just found the officer the most iconic and fitting one. Because squadrons can have seats for passengers. All other upgrade cards would work as well (Gunnery team is as well really fitting). But the officer just has the biggest number of possible cards that could work on squadrons and can give the biggest possible combinations.

I very much agree with this. I am not saying I like or dislike the ides of squads with upgrades but those upgrades need to be completely new cards specifically written for squads. Not because the currently available cards would be to overpowered but because it would be way to confusing for anyone who isn't extremely deep into the rules. So many upgrade cards would not work on squads because of small technicalities (like with EWS) that it would probably be way to confusing for most players which upgrades actually work on squads and which don't.

The main issue when it comes to GENERIC squads is how you differentiate... from a rules perspective.

i mean, all generic squads use just one card, and basically, because of that, you can’t really introduce something that differentiates a generic squad from another generic squad of the same type, without done other process being put in place.

Youd have to at least mandate one card per squad and a use if ship token numbers just like identical ships, which again, involves a rewrite of core rules.

It’s the same reason why generic squads can’t have defense tokens.

Keep upgrade slots to Uniques, and there’s no rules issue in that instance. Now, they don’t necessarily have to be aces, They just need to be unique to have their own squadron card
