using psionics in combat

By Wizuriel2, in Anima: Beyond Fantasy RPG

Just wanted to see if I understand psychic abilities right.

Suppose wanted to use freeze power. So I first roll psychic potential to see how strong it is cast (if at all). In this case roll 133 so it casts at 80PhR. Next I roll a psycic projection attack to see if if my target is in range of the attack? If they are the target then rolls a defense (taking penalties for not seeing supernatural). If the attack hits the target then rolls his PhR check?

I am not sure as I don't have my book in front of me, but I comment that Psychic Projection is used for direct attack spells. From memory, Freeze isn't about firing a bolt of ice at someone but freezing them. As such, I suspect that it may not need a Psychic Projection roll. I could be completely wrong however, and if I am, you have it right.

Psychic Projection is used whenever you need to "hit" someone or something with a psychic effect, i.e. every power which doesn't work only on the psi-user or the entire environment. Therefore "Freeze" should require a Psychic Projection roll.

As it is stated in the book, P-Proj. uses the same modifier table as Magic Projection, so you can check out this table in order to see how difficult it will be to hit someone (there you will also see, that you get a bonus if you touch your target, by the way).

Therefore: wizuriel, you're right.

you need a 10% success for it to be effective (p. 192), then the victim rolls resistance

Indeed, I would roll p-projection first. Remember than the target can still dodge or block, but they have penelties in doing so.
