Ideas for the Decimator

By Rubales, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi!

since the last points update, I've been thining about a list including a decimator.

I've read some great ideas in this and this posts (hot rod and mini swarm), but I don't know if you have tested other ways to use it, maybe with some aces...

Could you give me some suggestions about lists and strategies?

Thanks!

It's tough mainly due to lack of available wingmen, especially if you take the lovely Vader crew

What you could try is the patrol leader (super cheap, relatively speaking) with Kallus (being released in the 2nd Ed repack) and Vader crew + title

You get mods and Vader utility!

Alternatively, the grand inq is also coming out with the deci. I doubt he'll match Vader crew...EXCEPT you can now bring Vader pilot!

What does Inqy do? Well... admittedly it was a lot cooler when tact off was only two points, but just imagine what an inquistor coordinate could accomplish. Fun, right?

Lastly, there's Cheri. Expensive but I 5(!) and as good a carrier of hotshot as any. Just make sure you take Dauntless for those sweet, sweet reinforce!

Seriously, Dauntless actually seems like a giant pain in the *** because you can't just block a deci into submission...

Not sure how this’ll work out but I’ve been meaning to try it after the points change:

Empire Squad

(76) Rear Admiral Chiraneau [VT-49 Decimator]
(9) Seventh Sister
(7) Minister Tua
(3) Intimidation
Points: 95

(41) Major Vynder [Alpha-class Star Wing]
(0) Os-1 Arsenal Loadout
(3) Advanced SLAM
(2) Fire-Control System
(9) Plasma Torpedoes
Points: 55

(47) Captain Feroph [TIE Reaper]
(3) Intimidation
Points: 50

Total points: 200

I’m looking into Deci as well. Loved it early 1.0 Ed when it came onto the scene. I am also crazy and love the Defender so I figured let’s try matchup.

(81) Rexler Brath [TIE/D Defender]
(6) Outmaneuver
Points: 87

(76) Rear Admiral Chiraneau [VT-49 Decimator]
(14) Grand Inquisitor
(14) Darth Vader
(4) Dauntless
Points: 108

Total points: 195

RAC gets 2x actions with his blue maneuver or inq doesn’t trigger but at least gets one bumping with title. The Inq/Vader combo is murder on high PS aces. Can’t really dodge his arcs so most often peels tokens or slaps them one. Rex is a monster. Don’t like his ship ability but a I5 defender is nice with an emergency coordinate for boost/br from the deci if ever in a pinch. It’s worked out well and fun as all get out to fly.

cheers and visit to support our content!

Thing is you can only use one Force hability per turn because of the regeneration. Thus I prefer Tua and/or Agile Gunner for the « free actions ».

I love the idea of having a Defender as a wingman, but I'm not sure of Grand Inquisidor with Vader...

What do you think about this list?

VT-49: Rear Admiral Chiraneau (76 + 34)
+ Intimidation (3)
+ Darth Vader (14)
+ 0-0-0 (5)
+ Moff Jerjerrod (8)
+ Dauntless (4)
TIE/D Defender: Rexler Brath (81 + 9)
+ Juke (7)
+ Fire-Control System (2)

I’ve been rethinking this list a bit and wonder if I need a better puncher than Vynder. He’s good, but does require a lock to do damage.

In the same list below, I can fit:

Soontir Fel with Predator (55)

Sigmna Phantom with Juke (55)

Maarek Stele with FCS and Afterburners (54)

Grand Inquisitor with FCS (54)

I’m thinking Fel is the best value for the points but the Sigma could be fun as well. Also using a RAC/Fel list gives me the 1.0 feels.

10 points left to season to taste. I'm currently testing Lone Wolf on RAC and Cluster Missiles on Redline. Could be Dauntless or 0-0-0.

Been kicking this idea around a little bit, off the beaten track as it were. Seventh Sister has long fascinated me as an option, and I think this might be fun:

Dark Falconer

Darth Vader (67)
Sense (5)
Fire-Control System (2)
Ion Missiles (4)
Afterburners (6)

Ship total: 84 Half Points: 42 Threshold: 3

Captain Oicunn (74)
Intimidation (3)
Seventh Sister (9)
0-0-0 (5)
Minister Tua (7)
BT-1 (2)
Conner Nets (6)
Shield Upgrade (3)
Dauntless (4)

Ship total: 113 Half Points: 57 Threshold: 9

Total: 197

Vader is his typical scary self, but Sense lets you know where best to place Oicunn for some bumpy good times. Ion missiles are optional, but could allow an easy bump for Oicunn as well to strike the finishing blow.

0-0-0 is there to force a hard choice, as both BT-1 and Seventh Sister allow for a plethora of options if they don't allow Oicunn his Calculate token; and that plus a possible Force token allows for some truly nasty shots up close, especially if BT-1 has a Stress token to play with. Tua and a Shield upgrade are there to try and keep the ship as a credible threat longer into the game, making them choose between the veritable rock and hard place.

And don't you prefer having Vader as crew, and another kind of wingman? Maybe including him instead of 7th sister and Conner nets?

Actually I may have been too focused on Agile Gunner. Feeling confident, I am now playing this:

“Redline” (52)
Advanced Sensors (10)
Proton Torpedoes (13)
Cluster Missiles (5)
Proton Bombs (5)

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (76)
Lone Wolf (5)
Darth Vader (14)

There is just one simple rule: Do not bump if your arc is not pointing towards the enemy.

I got in a game with this yesterday:

Empire Squad

(76) Rear Admiral Chiraneau [VT-49 Decimator]
(11) Emperor Palpatine
(7) Minister Tua
Points: 94

(47) Captain Feroph [TIE Reaper]
(3) Intimidation
Points: 50

(48) Sigma Squadron Ace [TIE/ph Phantom]
(7) Juke
Points: 55

Total points: 199

I took down a Ketsu/Guri list, but I’m just not happy with the Reaper’s production. Maybe I’m just not good at the blocking game, but Alierons is tough, and my opponent used those big maneuvers with Ketsu, so blocking just wasn’t a thing. Next time, I may just abandon the blocking/intimidation strategy and just go for damage:

Empire Squad

(76) Rear Admiral Chiraneau [VT-49 Decimator]
(11) Emperor Palpatine
(7) Minister Tua
Points: 94

(48) Sigma Squadron Ace [TIE/ph Phantom]
(7) Juke
Points: 55

(46) Maarek Stele [TIE Advanced x1]
(2) Fire-Control System
(1) Marksmanship
Points: 49

Total points: 198

Vader crew is certifiably awesome, but I've wanted specifically to see what I could do with Seventh Sister. I think the options that she + BT-1 + 0-0-0 give on a bumping Decimator could be much fun, and Vader's X-1 is there to keep them scrambling, deadly as he is in it. No idea how it will do in practice, but I intend to find out this week.

True story: First time I flew a Reaper, those ailerons resulted in my flying it right off the mat in turn 2. They're a difficult beast to become comfortable with.

Yeah, and I'm not sure the payoff is there to learn how to make it work. So I'll just move over to Maarek, who is pretty great for the cost. I expect to come across some CIS swarms, so adding on some crits should work nicely.

Two games with the lastest list I posted:

Takeaway: RAC's action was mostly rotating the turret because of my poor planning. I missed Agile Gunner.
