Sad to see the Dice Pool Podcast go

By SavageBob, in Genesys

Very sad to read this announcement . Seems that the Dice Pool Podcast has come to an end due to "creative differences." The hosts always seemed to have such a great rapport; it's sad to see that they came to some sort of impasse regarding how the podcast would proceed.

The Genesys community is lucky to have other podcast options out there— Finding the Narrative and Excess Advantage are both great resources, and we have several great actual plays to choose from. But I've always viewed the Dice Pool Podcast as our community's podcast flagship. Sorry to see them go.

Hmmm. Bummer for sure. I assume this means they won't be finishing their Night's Edge setting... 😪

Yes, this is all a definite bummer. Without knowledge of what the dispute was over, it's hard to understand why they can't leave up their resources at least.

The episodes will remain up indefinitely. I’ve made sure of that.

This is sad news. The Dice Pool kept my interest in Genesys alive long enough to convince my friends to try the game, and even to write a few adventures to share online. As far as I'm concerned, its loss is a major blow to the Genesys community and the system in general.

Thank you Dice Pool for the many hours of entertainment and insight.

Sad news indeed. The Dice Pool has been a great help in learning and understanding this system. Even as a old dog ive learned a few tricks :) both from the regular episodes and from the live plays. For me Genesys was not just learning the rules but was to rewire a lot of things and make room for the narrative the show made it the dive a lot easier. When i started my first campaign we even did a setting roulette was a blast.

What ever the outcome i do hope the host are still friends or can be in the future. Maybe you should call that other show for a round of "when good games go bad" :)

Thank you Dice Pool your wisdom lives on in gaming tables around the world.

Very sorry to hear this indeed! This podcast always struck me as one of the more substantial and focused discussions of the narrative system and pen and paper role-playing in general. It will be missed!

And now there is only Finding the Narrative as Excess Advantage just called it quits as well. A tough couple of weeks for Genesys fans!

I wish Christopher from Excess Advantage well and hope he finds the healthy balance he's seeking.

What worries me about this is, to me, a sign that we will no longer see anything GeneSys related. Star Wars will continue as it is Star Wars, but classic FFG; Hype the community about a game, Don't support the game, cancel the game due to lack of support.

I LOVE GeneSys. I want more stuff for it. Some will say that the homebrew community is well supported, but I want official books that I can be fairly sure are well written, playtested, and vetted. Either support the system, or at least open the system to an OGL like D&D has/had. At least then, I could see what is selling and know that the community could benefit from their hard work.

You need to relax. Trust me on this.

The thing to remember is that its not the activity on these forums or the quantity of custom settings and other things created by fans that will keep FFG creating the annual book (not bitter, nope) and keeping the game in print. They are a business and want your money. If people are buying, they will keep making new stuff. This is why new Star Wars stuff is seemingly coming out all the time. Genesys is much more niche and so it won't have the monetary incentive that SW has. If you need a gauge on numbers, watch how the core book ranks on Drive Thru RPG. Beyond that, sell the idea of Genesys to your friends, run the demo games at conventions and regular games at your LFGS, and you can help with their success. The unfortunate end of these two podcasts (I believe) has nothing to do with the current success of Genesys. One ended due to illness and the other due to "creative differences". While we can speculate on what those differences are, such as the theory that there may have been desire to expand the show into other dice pool games, these are not a reflection on the success of the Genesys.

Keep creating, keep GMing. Even if it does die tomorrow, you can keep going with your own settings and items. But as GM Hooly says, relax. Your fears are unfounded.

I am also sad to see the show go, as I am now finally getting the chance to get started playing in Genesys. I have enjoyed listing to the show so far (part way through the episode on the player archetypes). One question actually related to that episode: does anyone have the quiz? I noted that Conexio Games Cafe is closed and their website is down, which means their quiz is lost in the ether.

While listening to the episode, I was thinking it could be a good exercise to do with my own gaming group.

Even though you are done with the Dice Pool Podcast, just know that what you produced was/is appreciated!

Just so you all know, I am starting a new show at the end of this month. I’ll make sure to post the detail of that show here.

That's great news! Very exciting GM Hooly! I look forward to listening :)

I noticed today that the facebook articles are down. Is there a way to get a copy of the information (I'm curious about the three zone articles in particular).

Thanks!
