Emerald Empire Sourcebook

By SevenCels, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Roleplaying Game

Greetings,

This question is directed at anyone who is familiar with the matter and knows/heard anything on the topic.

After reading the Introduction section of the book and part of the Chapter 1 I have encountered numerous typographical errors and other types of errors in the text that are quite significant and/or noticeable.

Is there a plan, present or future, to re-release the book (2nd printing?) and address those?

I really want to say that those errors are not that big of a deal but to be honest, they are there and remove immersion as you read through the material, sort of ruining the experience quite a bit.

Some of the examples:

"Emperor because curious" - I imagine the intent was to say "became curious". Section describes The Little Teacher after he came to the palace and defeated several armed guards while unarmed himself.

The italicized text describing the arrival of a samurai to one of the castles of the local Lords at the start of Chapter 1. First paragraph gives a brief narrative of the outside of a castle and mentions "late morning" as time of day. Immediately following second paragraph continues the description and the time of day mentioned is "afternoon". This seems like a logical inconsistency.

There are more things like those present that glare at you from the page as you read through.

That said, my intention is to bring this to attention of relevant people and get clarification on the question I asked above. I do enjoy L5R RPG and the lore of the world and how much it is established and the setting in general.

Thanks in advance,

SevenCels

If FFG release an errata it tends to get rolled into the .PDF release of the book.

I'm not sure about 2nd printings, but I would assume they'd be updated too.

That said, there's (so far) been no errata for Emerald Empire (and the .PDF is still 'because curious' )

I would suggest posting any errors you pick up in a thread.

No, we shouldn't be proofreading FFG's books, but if we see an error and put it somewhere on this forum, there's a chance they'll fix it.

Thanks for the reply, Magnus. I will follow your advice and in my next reply I will compile a list of the errors currently in the book as I work my way through it. Hopefully this will get addressed as I feel I have only scratched the surface.

Seven, submit your list on the forum, try and get a job doing copyediting for them! Heh.

Scrivener, I honestly don't mind and would love to do that (presuming FFG actually decides to offer me something along those lines), pending my effort and actual work done on the subject of course. Sounds like a plan to me. I will start on it :D

Alright, here is the Intro section with everything I was able to find. Each post will cover one chapter going forward.

Page 3 - Table of Contents ("the Summerlands") - "the" is lowercase despite the fact that everything else in the table has "the" capitalized.

Page 6 - Introduction - Adventure Seeds box ("as doing so could spoil things should your GM the ideas!") - looks like a word is missing.

Page 6 - Introduction - The Little Teacher ("the Emperor because curious") - I imagine the intent was to say "became curious".

Page 15 - The Ways of the Brotherhood ("geisha and well-off artisans and merchants in cities cities") - cities repeated twice.

Page 15 - Treachery Without And Within ("though these conflict") - I presume this should be "though these conflicts".

Page 16 - Gaijin Treachery ("they bought with them") - looks like the intent was "they brought with them".

Page 18 - A Clan of Horses and Samurai ("for at first first") - "first" is repeated twice.

Page 19 - The Flower of Sleep and Dreams ("and the that") - reasonably self-explanatory.

Page 20 - A New Glory ("since that time. some Rokugani") - looks like a "." in the middle of a sentence.

Page 20 - A New Glory ("poetry journals comes") - self-explanatory.

Go to the customer service email and send all of these. And with the star wars books subsequent printings were corrected

Thank you for the suggestion, I wasn't aware I could do it this way. Thought posting it on this forum might be a decent visibility, plus someone else suggested doing it here as well.
