Triple N-1 Aces

By Magnus Grendel, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So... looking at the N-1s, I was wondering about how to use the named pilots. Narratively I find myself either wanting to field Padme and two Handmaidens or the Battle of Naboo aces.

  • The Naboo N-1 is sufficiently cheap and lacks a modification slot that basically the only way you can spend out your points on three of them is packing them with torpedoes. Not that that's a bad thing.
  • For the Naboo Aces, I gave Ric advanced torpedoes - they don't benefit from his ability, but it's still a 5-dice attack if he gets a chance to use them.
  • Even with the increased cost of Juke, it still seems like the best option for most N-1 pilots. Padme's a bit safer and can probably afford to spend her evade, so I gave her R2-C4 instead.

Naboo Aces

  • Ric Olie
    • Daredevil
    • Advanced Sensors
    • Advanced Proton Torpedoes
    • R2-C4
  • Anakin Skywalker
    • Juke
    • Passive Sensors
    • Proton Torpedoes
  • Dinee Elberger
    • Juke
    • Passive Sensors
    • Proton Torpedoes
    • R2-A6

Royal Flight

  • Padme Amidala
    • Elusive
    • Passive Sensors
    • Proton Torpedoes
    • R2-C4
  • Naboo Handmaiden
    • Passive Sensors
    • Proton Torpedoes
    • R2 Astromech

Any thoughts on how to use them, or which is better?

I tested Obi, Ric, Padme yesterday and won 200-0 vs Whisper, Vader, Shuttle. The N-1's are incredibly potent and I was running APT on both Padme and Ric. With her ability they can just delete things and all 3 of my ships having regen and token stacking made it very hard to chew through.

I have tested both Juke and Outmaneuver on Ric, and honestly I prefer the latter. Juke tends to trigger 1-2 times a game for me and while that isn't bad with Padme sitting there making it crackshot, Outmaneuver has typically triggered more like 4-6 times and feels more potent. Adv Sens is now, assuming a list has the points spare, almost mandatory on Ric. It allowed him to be so much more aggressive, going fast and not worrying about bumps (especially in my list thanks to Obi-Wan giving him Glitterstim essentially). Even being more willing to T-Roll knowing I'd get a token, often stacked with Outmaneuver and his ability to make him much more potent.

So the first list above definitely stands out more to me, haven't tried the Passive Sensors + Proton Torps yet but it's bound to be solid, even at 16 points each. My big issue with the list is if you play vs any Guri list and can't catch her early, you're in trouble. I am thinking of dropping Padme in my list (alongside the torps from Ric) to get Anakin and go 2x Jedi + 1x N-1. But Triple N-1 is absolutely potent and will probably play the engage - reset - regen game as well as anyone.

It also makes Full Throttle less important (good with advanced sensors, I guess) since you don't 'need' the evade for juke and almost by definition aren't getting shot at. Thanks for the thought!

Agreed, but I have a thing about same-ship-squads. That's not a sensible gameplay choice, purely an aesthetic one.

That's always been the way. Engaging her from range 3 with torpedoes that don't care about initiative order to aquire locks has to be a darn sight easier than trying to catch the Continuously Pinwheeling Cybernetic Ninja up close, though.

Totally agree, and it may be that catching those hyper mobile aces isn't an issue, in which case this list has a great mix of firepower, defense, and efficient synergy. Let me know how you get on with it!

Personally have not flown the N-1s yet, however I have been waiting since day 1 of X-wing and cant be more excited to see Naboo shine literally and figuratively.

A talent I do not believe will be efficient with the N-1s is Elusive, you only have a 3-Talon roll as a red option to regen the charge and red maneuvers are going to be the last thing these ships want to do. Even after you fully execute you do not get the chassis bonus because you are performing a free evade action, which cannot be done while stressed.

The jury is still out on AdSen for me (cost & Synergies are biggest factors), why not just take ColDet? I believe it boils down to how you plan on flying Ric, I see him not as a cagey get in your face fighter but as a long range ace that can bait while shooting at range 3 then bring the opposing list for a chase while you flank with your lower ints that don't have the primary fire arcs at them.

WIP Bravo Aces:

-Ric Olie

R2 Astromech, ColDet, Outmaneuver, Plasma Torps

-Anakin Skywalker (lil Ani)

Juke, Passive Sensors, Pro Torps, R2 Astro

-Dinee Ellberger

Lone Wolf, Passive Sensors, Pro Torps, R2-A6

WIP Speed and Power:

-Saesee Tiin

R4 Astro, Delta 7B

-Ric Olie

R2-A6

-X2 Handmaiden

Narratively, they should aim ions instead protons. 😇

What about anakin? Full throttle +force+action seems pretty good.

Here's a list with N1s as flankers, and some beef to add firepower

"Sinker"

Gold squadron pilot x2

Little Ani

Ric olie

This leaves 13 points for you to add upgrades to taste. I like outmaneuver on both the N1s, but other options include:

Crew for the arc

Astros for everyone

Missiles for the GSPs

Upgrade GSPs to BSPs+dedicated

That's all I can think of right now, but there are plenty of combinations to try out!

Is there a major reason to limit yourself to 3? Juking Padme, 2 Handmaidens, and Ric with Juke and R2-A6 leaves a 5 point bid. Everybody just commits to focusing for its versatility, and more ships, more arcs, more HP, always good imo

Excited to give this a go:

For the idea of triple N1s here is an idea that has been in my head.

Could change Ric's R2 to R2-C4 for more punch. Ani i think can set up some nice trick shot, well, shots due to his ability. Would like Dinee do well, have an idea with Padme instead but Dinee is cheaper and thus more upgrades.

Just ordered another N-1 because I was bored. We’ll see how triple N-1s work for me...
