Rebel ARCs?

By LUZ_TAK, in X-Wing

I got 2 dials and the pilots from the Rebel Conversion kit. Is it worth the money and effort to get 1 or 2 models? Is there any point in flying Rebel ARCs? I don't see anyone doing it, and I look at the pilot cards and see nothing that sparks my enthusiasm.

Should I shelf the dials and pilots? Or am I missing something?

Norra is pretty good, and makes a fine crew carrier too. They just didn’t fit into the Rebel Beef lists due to the points breakdown. I.e they’d always take the I6 Wedge.

Rebel Arc, singular

Ie Norra Wexly

I mean, it's good that Shara is FINALLY cheaper than Wedge (seriously, ffg...) but you gotta bend over far enough to kiss your *** goodbye if you're gonna give her the support she needs.

And by that point you're sinking your game plan into something barely more durable than a B and far more needy

Wolfe is how it's done; Shara not so much

Honestly, if that’s where you’re at with them, I’d say let them go. There’s plenty of other stuff in the faction, and the models often aren’t the cheapest.

I fly Republic; my buddy flies Rebels. A game or two ago, he put a decent Garven on the table. He used it well, it tanked some damage, fun was had. But he had two ARCs in 1.0 and recently decided to trade me one for some other stuff, in part because they just don’t feel as necessary/useful compared to other options. (And since I play Republic, I have the opposite problem...)

Having one would let you play around with them. But I’d say only do it if you’re truly curious. And I’d be very hesitant about getting two unless you fall in love with the one.

What CoffeeMinion said. If you're not interested already, it's probably not worth the effort.

The ARC was my first expansion when I got into X-Wing, and one of my favorite ships in 1e. So far in 2.0 it's been too expensive to bother with for Rebels outside of the occasional Norra (though I did have fun flying Norra/Shara/Ibtisam once or twice.)

Personally I haven't touched them in a while what with all of the new toys, and the fact that I've ended up mostly playing Hyperspace (which still surprises me a little), but I'll pull them out again to toy with their new points a bit at some point I'm sure.

“Popps” is interesting in the ARC, because you can take a Perceptive Copilot with him to further extend his Focus-gifting.

I’ve also gotten Shara to work with Magva Yarro. But Norra really is the best way to go with the ARC. Ibtism just doesn’t give you enough of a discount for her lower Initiative and mediocre pilot ability.

Do you mean Garven Dreis? He was Red Leader at the Battle of Yavin. Pops was Gold 5.

Well, the paint job is certainly better than the Republic ARC, so there is that...

Bah, yeah I meant Garven.

Kanan with an R3 mech is how I played Shara. I’d be interested to see how Saw or Magva worked instead.

Ibtisam is actually really fun with Tac Officer and Elusive Chopper. Not sure offhand how the Tac Officer pricing changes affect her, but if it’s cheaper or at least the same it’s worth putting on the table casually.

notably there are 2 104st tiles in the republic ARC expansion so the rebel dials are good to practice with if you want to play multiple arcs without buying them straight away for a republic list.

The way I got Shara to work with Magva was with R3, and Intimidation (talent should be swapped out, I was trying something dumb). The idea was to throw her out in front as a decoy, Focus, and let her lowish Initiative set her up for a return volley. It worked, and she ended up throwing 4 dice at R-1, not needing the reroll, and added an extra eyeball to make a brutal 5-damage result.

Unfortunately she ate an advanced torp from a Punisher to do so... So meh tradeoff was meh. I rate it 4/10 jars of mayonnaise. Good for a lark, but not the best way to use an ARC.

With rebels, as already mentioned, you have plenty of variety. Enough for you to go with other things that excite you more.

I would say, find a federation player who is short on those parts and give them to that person. That way, they could buy "just the odels" online andif they already have a single one because then, they could just spare cards to go with the model and your dials. Help a buddy out and it could keep them in the game and they might do the same for you down the road.

Biggs, Wedge or Norra on an ARC, Garven in an ARC, and Ibtisam. No upgrades, 200pts.

Is it any good? Probably not, but the Norra version is a lot of beef to chew through. I tried 3 ARCs back in November. Got completely wrecked by Resistance 5s. The points changes means I can add Biggs instead of Sharra's upgrades.

In all seriousness, there is something really amazing and evocative of the “old busted” look they pulled off on the Rebel ARCs. Meanwhile, the Republic ARCs have tended to have sloppier paint application and more errors like misaligned guns. It could just be that the overall scheme of the Rebel ones is done in a way that hides paint issues better, but I’ve gotten 5 Republic ARCs so far and none have been what I would call flawless.

Maybe this just means I need to buy a few more....for....testing purposes.

(If you find yourself with more 104th Battalion, Squad Seven Veteran, or Seventh Fleet Gunner cards than you can use, I would love to see if I could trade you for one of each. I’m stretching one Republic ARC pack across that plus two Rebel ones, which largely works, but a couple more generic pilot cards would rock my world!)

No trade necessary. If you are in the US, just shoot me a message with your address and I’ll pop them in the mail.

Given the cost reduction, I think Ibtisam is probably pretty decent. I always kinda enjoyed that pilot ability in 1e, with a 50% chance to pull a red move, clear the stress, and take an action.

Rather, if someone wanted to fly Ibtisam, it wouldn't be too bad, even if I don't really think she's got much of a place in top winning tournament lists.

48 points for an i3 and a random *** ability?

I'd sooner take the dedicated generic.

At least Garven is a force multiplier, even if his xwing incarnation just seems out and our superior due to better manueverability and small base and slight price decrease

I did very well with Shara and Magva, R3. But yeah, they work well due to other rebel support like Jake, Garven in an Xwing, and Airen Cracken.

buy two republic arcs and fly four
