Went to a local Hyperspace tourney at my FLGS yesterday. I took a team I am planning on using at a Hyperspace Trial in September, but this was still using the old points (before the July change).
Thanks to @wurms for the inspiration.
The team I used was Wedge w/ R2, Braylen, Jake, Norra w/Ion and VTG.
The points are 190 currently and will be an even 200 after the points change.
Game 1 vs Dooku w/ scimitar and Palp, Grevious and 2 vultures w/ESC (there may have been a few more upgrades mixed in)
3 Asteroids and 3 clouds, well spaced out in all the corners and 2 in the middle.
Dooku set up in the top left, with Wedge and Jake in the bottom left. Norra in the middle, and Braylen on the right across from Grevious and his vultures. Wedge and Jake jousted Dooku and Norra came in to flank. Braylen took on the droids and Grevious. Braylen was able to half grevious in one shot while only taking one ESC from a vulture while Wedge lost a shield in exchange for 4 of Dooku's shields. The vultures peeled off to help Dooku and Jake went to engage them in the center while Norra and Wedge finished off Dooku (this was just a few turns of jousting). Jake killed one vulture and the other's ESC did no damage. Braylen and Grevious traded shots for a few turns, and in the end grevious went down and braylen had 2hp left. Then it was 4 one one Vulture droid, and easy cleanup
Final score 200 - 24.
Game 2 vs Han and Luke. Both fully loaded. Han had Saw and R2 and Hotshot gunner Luke had R2 and torps. I can't remember the rest of the upgrades.
I have played this player before and lost to his Han/Luke build with my 2x Selfless B wings, Biggs and Evaan Verlaine. My formation flying was my downfall.
Asteroids were set along the top edge, the right edge and a single small rock in the bottom left, leaving a big empty space in the middle. Han set up in the top right across from Wedge and Jake. Luke set up in the top left across from Braylen and Norra in the middle. Han slow rolls, and Wedge and Jake turn away on turn one. Luke and Braylen move 2 straight at eachother. All my forces converge on Luke to try and draw Han into the empty space and away from the rocks to turn off his ability. The plan works but all 4 ships shoot luke for a total of 1 shield. Luke does no damage in return. Another turn of chasing Luke around the lone rock in the bottom left and only 1 shield gone, but now Han is right where I want him, away from the rocks. Jake and Wedge and Braylen peel off of Luke to flank Han. Han chases Norra and Norra chases Luke. Han starts to damage Norra along the bottom edge of the board and Norra ions Luke just after he passes the rock. Wedge does a few damage to Han and Han does 3 to Norra. After that Luke is in the killbox, all 4 ships have arc and Braylen is double modded. Luke does not survive and Han is alone, turning up the left board edge. The rest is just cleanup as Han chases Norra, and the other 3 ships fly straight for the side of Han. Han uses Saw well to get half of Braylen before he goes down. Final score was 200 - 24+26 (half of Braylen + half of Norra)
Game 3 vs Fenn Rau, Joy (another Fang) and a starviper that can rotate 90 degrees for a stress.
The rocks were a pretty dense cluster in the middle. I used the same set up as before, Braylen in the bottom left across from the viper, Norra in the middle across from Joy and Jake and Wedge in the bottom right across from Fenn. I slow roll and the Fange come in with 5 straights. Braylen moved 3 straight and so did the viper. The two of them joust and Braylen's knife fighting does a good job against the really cool banked barrel rolls of the starviper. In the end Braylen comes out on top, but with no shields. Meanwhile Fenn does 3 damage to Jake and takes 1 from wedge. Norra does nothing to the other fang. Wedge and Jake flee from Fenn to help Norra since Fenn is stressed and can't T-roll. The three of them kill Joy in 2 turns, but Fenn cmes back and avenges him by finishing off Jake. Wedge takes 3 damage as well. At this point, wedge disengages and regens his shields while Norra and Braylen hit fenn for 1 damage. He does not go down easy but once Wedge rejoins the fight and does one more to Fenn, Braylen is the MVP and deals the final damage to finish the game.
Final score: 200- 36+24 (Jake + half of Braylen)
My closing thoughts are that I really liked R2 on Wedge to recover shields after the first engagement and to deny half points, which came into effect in 2 of the 3 games. Braylen is soo good by himself and in 2 games he got to go 1v1 with another ship, where I think he shines. People get so caught up seeing wedge and trying to kill him, they forget about Braylen, and I think Braylen did more total damage than wedge. Jake was great as soon as you see him as a ship made to give out focus and not a damage dealer. He killed 1 vulture droid and maybe did 1 more damage? Norra was nice. She would not be a good endgame piece, but is good at getting in the way and if she ions someone, everyone else can finish them off. Overall the team just felt very fluid and adaptable. My opponents didn't quite know a kill order right away and each game felt different, where as when I played beef every game felt the same. Overall very fun team to fly but it is mentally taxing. I would not have had a 4th game in me, but 3-0 and scoring 200 per game while conceding less than 100 felt good.
