Dwarf ranger responding to developments.

By Barbacuo, in Warhammer Invasion Rules Questions

Hi there. I've been playing against a dwarf deck a lot recently. He set the Forgoten mine + Reclaim the hold combo, but we have some questions when interacting with Dwarf ranger. Reclaim the hold sets the unit as a development AFTER it leaves game, so Rangers would trigger. Developments are in play, and if a development leaves play via returning to hand, will it trigger the Ranger again? Does he have to show me the card? And if a destroy the development?

Thanks.

Anyone? This is very confusing.

If you are asking if Dwarf Ranger would trigger when a unit that is face down as a development leaves play (via Abandonded mine) I dont think that it would trigger. The card wasnt a unit when it left play, it was a development.

I was thinking it will work that way, thanks.

development is not a card type. unit, support, tactic and quest are. therefore a unit was in play, and the ranger should trigger if the unit leaves play. we know units used as developments are in play from the grimgor ironclaw ruling in the FAQ. you don't have to reveal it, but i think your opponent can call a judge over to make sure you're not cheating. However many people will probably argue against this, so you should probably send it to the rules guy.

I do not think having a development leave play would trigger dwarf rangers.

Even if you developed a dwarven unit card, in play it is considered a development. It would always be considered a development until it arrived to its destination (discard pile or hand). Since developments and units are considered two distinct and separate entities, the rangers would not trigger from having the development leave play.

There's just the "Stand your Ground" official Ruling...If a Unit enters discard pile, but it used to be a developement until that, you CAN trigger it...

I guess you can't with Dwarf Range for the wording...A Unit LEAVES PLAY if it's a Unit during the "passing-out" process..

Anyway, Dwarf Ranger is always in the center of lots of troubles and game issues :)

I suggest to ban it! gui%C3%B1o.gif

Rule Question:
Does a Dwarf Ranger trigger when a unit that is face down as a development leaves play?

James:
No. This is because it is a development leaving play not a unit.

@Entropy: You know what to do?! :-)

The grimgor ruling is based on the fact that yes, face down as a development, the card is in play. When you play Rip Dere Heads off, it only flips the card, telling both players that he is a unit, however, there is no "entering play" for the unit, because he was already there.

I'm glad to see official ruling is going that way. It's not like dwarfs need more ways to use the rangers.

On it, thanks.

I wish I would get responses to some of my questions though :-( I think I need to ask shorter questions. James will probably just respond to me with "tl;dr" :-)
