Naboo Fighter Questions

By Dlogue, in X-Wing Rules Questions

When the Naboo fighter activates its special speed ability, it doesn't automatically get the evade token right? It just has the option of taking the evade action?

If you have two handmaidens, do they have to escort the same friendly ship?

The ship ability is a "may" so you choose if you do the evade or not. The handmaidens can only assign the condition to a single ship due to that single limited dot on the condition card.

So effectively, yes. They are both guarding the same ship :)

You don't get an automatic Evade token, you get a chance to take an Evade action. As such, stress will prevent it, such as from the Talon Rolls or from flying over Debris.

But to be clear, this isn't the option to take the Evade action is in addition to your standard action. Folks probably know this, but the particular phrasing of "option of taking the Evade action" almost sounds like a replacement of the normal action, rather than a separate effect.

Full Throttle: After you fully execute a speed 3-5 maneuver, you may perform an Icon action evade action.

”Perform an evade action” : You may perform the evade action, and if you are not stressed perform another non-evade action (can not perform the same action twice in a round) during your perform action step. If you are stressed you cannot perform the evade action, or any action during your perform action step.

“Acquire an evade token” : You may get an evade token then if you are not stressed perform an action (including an evade) during your perform action step. So you can get 2 evade tokens unstressed, or 1 if you are stressed. Lower initiative Ships with Juke can now spend 1 evade token while getting attacked before they can make an attack, and still have another evade token to be considered “evading” to use the Juke talent while they make an attack. This would be awesome on N-1s with Juke. Unfortunately that isn’t what the N-1 card says:

Think of it this way:

  1. N-1 Reveals its dial and moves, checking for stress and all that fun stuff.
  2. Full Throttle check!
    1. Didja go fast? If you did, congrats! You get the special out-of-sequence opportunity to perform an evade action!
    2. You still need to fulfill the other requirements for the chance to perform this action (no stress, no Damaged Sensor Array, etc)
  3. After that, you go on to your Perform Action step, where you can perform your usual action after moving.

As a counter-example, look at the TIE Phantom, "Whisper." She gains an evade token whenever she performs an attack that hits... no action needed.

So question then. How does the N-1 react when it runs over a gas cloud? Does it get to perform that possible evade or not?

Yes. Overlapping/moving through a gas cloud forces a ship to skip its perform action step (i.e. the one action opportunity every ship gets every turn). It doesn't stop you from performing actions you get from other sources, such as Afterburners, the Aethersprite's Fine Tuned Controls, or indeed Full Throttle.

Note, Asteroids are the same way. Debris would give you the stress, and that stress would stop any actions.
