Big Heroic Deal... 30 point Finn filler

By emeraldbeacon, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Someone pointed out how extremely effective a simple two-card 30 point filler could be for Resistance squads, with just a bit of squad space left:

  • 29 - Finn (Resistance Pod)
  • 01 - Heroic

Finn's ability lets him add die results every time he attacks or defends, NOT just once per round. If he manages to blank out (roughly 1/16 on attack, 1/8 on defense), he can add another blank then reroll everything with Heroic. If not, he can Strain to get a focus result instead (which, upon defense, would appear to immediately go away). Otherwise, he works as a low-initiative blocker as needed. Seems like a bargain to me, at only thirty points!

That seems like a really good combo! I currently have a list with Vi Moradi carrying GA-97 but now may switch it out for Finn with Heroic.

At just 34 point is Finn, Heroic and Advanced Optics. So on attack, with a focus token, you always are guaranteed at least 1 hit, even if the heroic reroll is also blank.

Sorry... the strain can be removed straight away on Defense rolls?

Well dang.

A ship is strained while it has at least one strain token. While a strained ship defends, it rolls 1 fewer defense die. The strain token is a red token.

  • After a strained ship defends, it removes 1 strain token.
  • After a strained ship executes a blue maneuver, it removes 1 strain token.

Finn gains the strain token whilst defending, so after he's rolled dice (so he doesn't roll 1 fewer die) and has it 'after he defends' so removes it immediately.

Basically, he can add a focus or blank with no cost either way on the defence (even if your opponent has an 'if attacking a strained opponent' clause it's probably for their own dice roll step which has been and gone), it's only when attacking that it matters.

Yeah I checked it out, seems legit.

Looking at Finn + Heroic + C3PO.

3PO can get you the 2 calculates or 1 calculate off of coordinating something else.
