A plea to FFG: Make new ways to play the game! New ways to use what we have! Not new ships. New relationships!

Am I having a lull in interest here?

I'm a bit sad: the points change mentally is a huge win in theory. Everything about this game to me makes logically sense in terms of beauty of style and models and game balance/design. However, I feel like for once, I'm actually not feeling the urge to play. =( That makes me really sad, as I've never had that feeling for this game before.

I've had this experience many many times before with other games, generally its because they kept pushing one style of playing (versus, standard) while churning out new ship/characters/abilities, but not changing the way the game is played. The other factor is not being able to play: horrible computer lag, inability to find players to play against. I'm coming across that second issue now too.

i was feeling much the same about 2wks ago. was tired of playing the same lists. now the points have been dropped im wanting to rework a few of my old squads and try a few of the ships that have dropped a few points. Points update #2 was pretty lack luster in lots of ways. I think everyone, nomatter what faction(s) you play is feeling a little short changed. If you are one of the lucky minority, some of the ships you love to play dropped in points.

Back on topic. I agree the game needs something new, other than points adjustments, it needs new pilots and soon. Some here are eagerly awaiting missions and epic. You know what would be cool? Side events at the larger events that had missions games running. These could look like quick start squads based around a specific era from SW cannon. Kessel Run anyone? Battle of Yavin? Trench Run? FFG have the source material right?

I feel like I played the quirky stuff pre-change, and it doesn't really make a big difference.

Ive played almost everything now, learned most of the styles of play I've ever wanted to.

I get so much joy seeing the ships, but list building is no longer any fun for me. I want a campaign mode where I can build up my forces and my pilots' skills and stories. I want wild things to happen during the battle. I want to do more than just battle. Maybe do some outer rim patrols, hunt some pirates, maybe haul some supplies to new settlers and far flung worlds, provide stability to my new empire, kill some younglings, yknow.

Something akin to the old missions would be good. Making it a 'Correllian Campaign' box set would be awesome; throw in missions, new terrain types, maybe some new pilots (either for normal play or some quick-build characters)....I'd be on that like stuff which is on other stuff really quickly.

During SW celebration they mentioned that some scenarios and perhaps even campaign will be included in the Epic set.

We need new ways to think about the game. Why would I competitively play Echo when I can play Whisper? Yes, you can make Echo super cheap by comparison, but still. I think Initiative/PS while beautiful when it came out, is now a heavy crutch in terms of how the game is thought of competitively.

After the recent point the actual difference between some of the I4, I5 and I6 pilots on the same chassis became massive. New Vader/Soontir/Whisper costs mean that if you want a bid against other aces you have to sacrifice some of their favourite upgrades... Or you can take Echo for 6pts less and your 197 list suddenly becomes 191 list, two ships moving after most of the meta and one blocker. You can actually make it 193 and take Sense on Vader, turning Echo's blocking up to 11. Seventh Sister is 9 pts less than GI. Obi-Wan has 16pts of high ground over Anakin, massively influencing what else you can fit in his list. Is Ello Asty worth 5pts more than Jess' easily accessible mods? I don't think so anymore.

In the last season we've seen lower initiative pilots prevail thanks to smart range control, good calls on opponent's maneuvers and some good abilities on these pilots. Compared to launch and pre-season mostly I5 field I hope we'll see even more diversity and experimenting.

This. Some people will always fixate on higher initiative, but whilst it's an effective crutch, you have to learn to do without it to be reliably successful; no matter what you do, sooner or later you'll face the same ace with a slightly higher initiative bid.

By comparison, accepting that your pilot will have to move first but can genuinely do stuff that the higher initiative ace hasn't a hope in heck of duplicating is a different matter. Kylo Ren is a good case in point. No, he's not I6. But Supernatural Reflexes plus Autothrusters is faintly ridiculous. Echo - especially Echo with Afterburners - is capable of eye-watering manoeuvres.

Yes, you get to see where I moved first.

No, you're still not going to be able to get there.
