It may well be that their definition isn't so much "books set in a specific time frame" but rather "books that are applicable to all three product lines instead of just being specific to one of them."

As for the books under the default definition of "era," thus far the three books we've gotten (Dawn of Rebellion, Rise of the Separatists, and Collapse of the Republic) have only covered a very short span of years. So it's entirely possibly that for the sequel era, they could go the same route they did in covering the Clone Wars and split it into two books, one focusing mostly on the years leading up to and up through Episode 8 (given that TFA and TLJ happen pretty much concurrently) and thus setting the stage by detailing the New Republic and state of galactic affairs before the First Order came in and started kicking the ant-hills, with a subsequent book covering the years in between 8 and 9 with perhaps some hints as to what happens after the Skywalker Saga comes to a close.

The only snag i see in your sequel theory is the Mandalorian is in that era.

Maybe we will get something that fits the slot between Collapse and Dawn. Or maybe something before Rise. The before Rise book would be nice

There’s definitely a space for a Dark Times, post-Order 66 era book that connects CotR with Dawn of Rebellion.

There's a good chance we may get a Galactic Civil War era book or two. Probably focusing on stuff from the comics and such. Maybe do a few key characters stat blocks.

FFG published Nexus of Power and Dawn of Rebellion, both of which mentioned elements of Star Wars: Rebels before that series had ended.

To say nothing of Collapse of the Republic coming out and covering a bit of post-Order 66 even though Season 7 of Clone Wars has yet to be released.

So really not that big of a hurdle, or at least one FFG has no problem simply stepping around.

It's meant to cover up to the Siege of Mandalore, which took place just prior to the events of Revenge of the Sith.

And there is information out there that fills in some of what occurs between Episodes 6 and 7. Chuck Wendig's Aftermath series is one such resource, along with other novels either pertaining to or leading up to the events of TFA and TLJ. Folks may not like those books, but they are out there and do fill in some of the blank spaces in much the same way that the early Expanded Universe filled in the numerous blank spaces between Episodes 4 and 6.
