I noticed that all the rebel lists in the world championship had Luke with force push. I must be missing something with force push because I don't see why its so valued.

If you're close enough to push a unit into range of Luke (which requires an action to attack), you're close enough to charge, so its not gaining you an action.

Are players using it to break out of melee? I've used Luke a lot and don't recall any situations where I wished I had force push. Could someone please enlighten me?

Yup! This is one of the big things. Like you observed yourself, modulating distances is a rather weak use of Force Push for Luke. The ability to move your opponent’s units is extremely powerful. You can disengage Luke whenever you like, or push a unit off of a scoring position, push them into the waiting arms of your other units with standby, etc.

One thing that I’ve done is move my opponent’s Rebel trooper unit such that 4 models are hidden behind a wall, but the z6 is hanging out by himself in a sniper alley. My snipers then proceeded to remove that z6 from the board. There are all sorts of creative things you can do in specific situations.

In my opinion, it is the single most powerful card in the game right now.

force push has a lot of versatility such as pulling more units into melee to prevent luke from being targeted with range attack. making a unit that is touching a object not touch it any more, pushing units out of cover also getting a key unit that is about to activate out of melee so they can get a charge in.

Another good use is pushing units off an objective. Can be very powerful for only 10 points

I've usually used it to pull another unit into melee after Luke wiped the one he had engaged.

Break out of meele or you push an activated unit out in open for other units to shoot. Or push them away from an objective, it's a crazy powerful in a game of movement and position like legion.

I cant count the number of times i've thrown a stormtrooper unit in the way of Luke or surrounding a unit Luke is trying to kill like death troopers or Veers so that Luke has to kill the stormtroopers while the better unit has time to run. if my opponent would have equipped force push, this would never work. ridiculously powerful upgrade!
