a group of us are just getting into Legion, would you guys recommend rebels or empire as a first faction? Personally I want to go clones when they come out but we are starting with a beginner league in the next few weeks so we all start with only the core set and then add a pack each session.
New player, what to do first?
To be honest, you should go with whatever faction you prefer. I was dedicated to the empire before I saw any unit stats or testplays. 😄
BUT if you want to know...
Empire is a bit easier to play. I won't say that they are stronger, but they are a bit easier to play and more forgiving when you make mistakes in general.
Now comes the second BUT: If you only have the core set, I think rebels are the "noob-friendly" faction. Luke and AT-RT are easier to play than Vader and Z74 Bikes. Empire gets easier to handle with the first expansions.
Empire generally requires no actions for defense, whereas for Rebels using dodge before getting fired on is almost critical.
Both factions are great and only really differ in a handful of ways. Welcome to the hobby!
The usual recommendation is to get two core sets to start. If you like you can split the core sets with a friend and each take one faction.
Building from there, Leia for the Rebels and Veers for the Empire are good choices. Then you can flavor to taste!
The meta right now is to run 3 Sniper Strike Teams which is a little costly to purchase but only important when people start going to tourneys.
I also usually recommend the “Operation: Take The Hill” special scenario on the FFG website as a great 500pt format for a 3’x3’ table.
Have fun!
Thanks for the advice. I have already ordered a Second core set and am going to keep both so that i can faction swap if i want

Or you just play both 😆
Also a good decision

Good stuff!
Its nice to have the extra dice and range rulers etc as well.
Theres a lot of fun to be had with just two core sets!
The general consensus is to run Stormtroopers with the DLT and Rebel Troopers with the Z-6 so that’s good to get used to early.
Pew Pew!
