Aggressive Ryad

By Vectivus333, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Been wanting to see Aggressors get a little love, so I built this and tested it in Fly Casual the other evening; it's got potential, I think. Flew very well against the AI's 5-Khiraxz combo, going 3-0.

Countess Ryad (84)
Predator (2)
Fire-Control System (2)
Heavy Laser Cannon (4)

Ship total: 92 Half Points: 46 Threshold: 4

Onyx Squadron Scout (32)
Elusive (3)
Ion Cannon Turret (4)
Veteran Turret Gunner (6)
Stealth Device (6)

Ship total: 51 Half Points: 26 Threshold: 3

Thoughts?

I think all 3 pilots may receive a little downward adjustment, then you may be onto something.

Personally, Ryad is a little awkward as the main piece in a list, she's quite easy for an ace to dodge. Having the Ion is nice to pin things down, but overall, the damage race will be hard to win with this squads output.

Elusive and SD seems unnecessary, a single intermittent reroll and a one ( maybe 2) time 3rd dice is not gonna add a lot to their survivability. Ryad is a hard target, so focus fire hits the predictable Aggressors instead and melts them fast whatever you do. Then they simply box Ryad and aim for half points before time.

I'd go for Adv Sensors on Ryad, (girl be craazy with it), then probably Outmanoeuvre to make up for the lost mods when you use it. Brockets on the Aggro, to up their output.

Really though, I'd be more liking a 4th ship, or 2 bigger hitters, but with Ryad being so pricey, it's a very awkward squad to build.

But anyway, with those 3 pilots.... I have this.

(32) Onyx Squadron Scout [TIE/ag Aggressor] (7) Barrage Rockets (4) Ion Cannon Turret (6) Veteran Turret Gunner. Points: 49

(32) Onyx Squadron Scout [TIE/ag Aggressor] (7) Barrage Rockets (4) Ion Cannon Turret (6) Veteran Turret Gunner. Points: 49

(84) Countess Ryad [TIE/D Defender] (10) Advanced Sensors (6) Outmaneuver. Points: 100

Total points: 198

The only reason for I3, as far as I see it, is to avoid being Init killed by all the other I3s about and getting the drop on I2s. A talent isn't gonna add much and only increases the overhead. 2pt for that seems decent but it's incredibly match up dependent.

Otherwise I'd probably go for the I2s and HLC on Ryad. It's honestly 4pt that isnt doing a lot and even a bigger bid for Ryad would be useful there. But again, it all depends on match up, so there's no right answer.

Love Ryad and the Aggressor myself, but they're hard ships to build for and use well. Best of luck :)

I thought about brockets on the Aggros myself, give 'em a little more punch. I dig the changes, and not having the FCS just means that Ryad can use Focus when she needs some re-rolls, hmm. I haven't played competitively as of yet, just casual matches with friends, but I'd like to start getting into the tourney scene. Thanks for the input, my dude (ette?).

Not Aggressor heavy, but here's the list I flew to Campaign Against Cancer, featuring Kestal.

The star of the show is RAC of course, but Kestal is great. Use her to flank. She is a thorn in your opponent's side that they will have a hard time ignoring.

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (80)
Swarm Tactics (3)
Minister Tua (7)

Lieutenant Sai (47)
Emperor Palpatine (11)

Lieutenant Kestal (36)
Barrage Rockets (7)
Fifth Brother (9)
Total: 200

dude.

This one.

and no worries, it's my pleasure :)

Once you play the list against other people, you'll see what works for you much more easily.

On Fly Casual, I'd recommend taking it up against a Wedge/ProTorp Luke list to see how those high Init, high damage b****rds spoil nice things. They're decently representative of what happens when you screw up and plop something in a bad place . Plus, they're good practice for seeing how to pre-dodge a lot of ships moves with Ryad.

Nice. I need to pick up or borrow a shuttle for Palpy, but this looks fun n' beefy. I suppose I could try a Reaper and see how it worked...

The Reaper is fast, almost... too fast. Awkward ship but fun to fly!

Love the Reaper. But yes, awkward. Several games where it just flies off into empty space and does it's own thing for a few turns is part of the process. But it's well worth it.

I laughed out loud at my buddy's face the first time he saw how squirrely and agile the Reaper is, especially for a freaking crew platform. Slooped in behind his Aethersprite and unloaded, after Vader / 0-0-0 shenanigans. Good times.
