What should the Resistance Bomber Cost?

By Bucknife, in X-Wing Squad Lists

End of season 1, June 2019, they base at 58 points, and max at 66 at I4.

3 more hull than and ARC170, who's base cost is currently 42 for the I2.

(we're at a 16 point difference right now between the I2 ARC170 and I1 MG100). 4.6 points per hit for the ARC, 4.8 points per hit for the Bomber.

A bowtie turret instead of a fixed rear arc (okay).

Limited dial with no k-turns AND a large base (aka, I bump and always get blocked and lose my action, and eat every bullseye effect known to space-kind).

___________

I feel like the crew slot was slapped on there because Resistance crew+gunner combos are about the only trick this balloon has... Plus, I guess perceptive copilot.

I also feel like it should also have a second mod slot at its current cost point so it could at least take Ablative Plating on top of something else, but every upgrade point on these things feels bad past about 80 or 90.

__________

Anyway, how much is this bomber worth?!

I'd almost say that 50 points for the I1 would be enough for me to ever consider it for competition (and I also don't think there's the slightest risk that 4 naked bombers at I1 could ever be competitively viable.)

Unfortunately, at 50, the bomber could edge out T70s as the more efficient generic filler. (On the other hand, if this ship's only claim to fame in X-wing is that it has the most efficient HP in the game... We'll that would at least be canonical.)

So realistically, with no adjustments to the current slots or available upgrades?

52-54.

Somebody tell me I'm crazy, please.

Less... I’d be aggressive and say by 10 points. I want to fly them but it’s tough to.

At 52, you could field 3 of them with VTG and PerCop for double-tapping double-focus fun... although VTG may get tweaked in the points update.

Personaly, I feel that if the devs really want to avoid "stapled" upgrades and encourage "everything is viable" then this ship should be the poster child for that idealology.

It's really awful without so many of these upgrades (VTG, etc).

Upgrades like gunner should probably go up, and this chassis should go...

Down down, down...

(that goes the same for generic Y-wings).

But, I get it. The whole thing is a very delicate puzzle.

I'll be happy if things slowly move in that direction over the next couple years.

The power of the bomber comes not just from the combos that it has itself, but from the combos that it is given by other ships. The best resistance bomber by far is Vennie, and I think that he is costed about right, you have to make real and meaningful decisions when building him, between crew, gunners, system, tech and wingmates. My ideal Vennie list is about 210 points ... so I would love to see him drop in points.

I think that the other bombers are a bit overcosted, but lets not forget that they got a points reduction in the last round, (albeit one that was offset by a hike to the cost of traj sim). I think that comparing them to an ARC is invalid. Bombers get a 270 arc, they have card combos open to them via double gunner, tech and system slots that the arc can't touch. Until you've played pattern analyser on a bomber you don't understand the power of a stop with full actions.

So my point - bring them down in line with the increases to A-Wings because bombers alone are a sad sight.
