I'm helping my friend make a character, and I've been reading and seeing many different sources say you get 4 free career skills and 2 free specialization skills. Where in the physical book does it say that? I have the actual book and I can't find that anywhere. Just a reference to it's location will let me see it with my own two eyes in the book and put my conscience at ease. lol. Thanks in advance!

Edge of the Empire Core Rulebook
SELECT CHARACTER CAREER (Page 34):
Each career has eight associated career skills. These skills should be checked on the character sheet to indicate they are career skills. During this step of character creation, the player may choose four of the eight starting career skills and gain one rank in each of the selected skills free (he does not spend experience points). He may not choose the same skill more than once.
SELECT SPECIALIZATIONS (Page 35):
Each specialization also includes four additional career skills. These four skills should be marked on the character sheet as career skills if they are not already marked. During this step of character creation, the player may choose two of the four additional career skills and gain one rank in each (without spending experience). He may not choose the same skill more than once. However, he may choose to train a skill that was also trained during the career selection step, allowing the character to start with a skill trained to level two
Thank you! I was looking at pages 53-55, regarding selecting career and specializations. You're a saint!
There is one important caveat: if it's a Force & Destiny career then they only get three career skills, which is essentially an offset against the fact that those careers give Force Rating 1 up front.

You'll find the FFG books greatly lacking in common sense when it comes to organization. I did the same thing.... looking where IT SHOULD BE instead of where it actually was. FFG has lots of things "split" up for no good reason along with incomplete descriptions of skills. (e.g. starship weapon Rarity, cost, HPs. Split on two different graphics 30 pages apart. ) Good luck!
Also if you read each career, it tells you (Colonist/Doctor used as example):

I also find the index misses certain key concepts from the listing for ease of use.
