So far as I know the machine god is not a daemon but a C'tan, the Void Dragon.
Reviving the Emperor

That's certainly one interpretation. Just be aware that there are many others. For example, I view that a certain cultthe Dragon Cultmaintains that the Dragon is the Machine God. The orthodox movement in the Cult Mechanicus itself sees the Emperor as being the Machine God-through-Omnissiah. According to Titanicus , there are radical philosophies out there that do not view the Emperor as the Machine God.
In Kage-verse? The Machine God is an entity that is being nurtured through the Holy Altar, but otherwise exists in the warp. That it might sometimes touch with the concept of the "Emperor" is a matter for some debate, since then the question is whether it touches with the Child (i.e. the Star Child), or the Twin, which in Kage-verse is the dark, malign entity that is shaped by the teachings of the Adeptus Ministorum the perverted monstrosity; Emperor-as-Avenger. (Or, for those that can remember it, this basically turns one interpretation of the Emperor into Malal!)
Many different interpretations. This is one of those situations that a simple answer would probably lessen the universe.
Kage
you are right bombernoy it is the ctan void dragon that the emperor kicked the ass of and shoved it in basic suspended animation. the ctan void dragon gave the secrets of and started the machine cult when mars teraforming got broken and there was widespread death and general destruction...gave them hope so they followed it. the daemon prince has however convinced a good number into believing they are worshipping him instead...face it daemons love to use humans as pawns in their own seedy games against one another. Originally it was the void dragon. The daemon prince however has long since taken a more acitve role in things posing as the omnissiah is all....i have read most of the literature on it and alot of the details for it can be found in the horus heresy series books and the ones that detail the times of the emperors walk among the stars with his marines. but there are other sources of it in the literature as well as you also pointed out....and so many different interpretations of it...all are true and none are true...lol. Id just say as GM to take which tidbits you like and spin it off how you like...gotta love GMs option

I'm a touch confused about what you're saying here. Is it no longer the supposed Void Dragon intombed on Mars but a Daemon Prince instead now?

Agreed.
no graver...it is still the void dragon in the mars tomb BUT the Daemon prince has fooled some of the other mechanicus cult higher ups ( that dont know the truth about the dragon ) that the daemon is the omnissiah instead of the dragon....remember the ctan and chaos will fight eachother at every turn...so the daemon prince is using the chance while the dragon is bound and basically sleeping to usurp his position....just imagine the chaos that will ensue once the dragon wakes and finds half his cult is worshipping a daemon prince instead of him....in addition to the imperial group at his feet....

Ah, gotcha. It seemed like the Daemon Prince you spoke of was interchangeable with the Void Dragon and thus my confusion about what you were actualy saying ;-) Thanks for the info!
I do wonder, though, are the mechanicus really worshiping any actual deity that exists in 40k (as the C'tan, the Emperor, and the Chaos Gods exist) or is the Machine God they venerate merely the deification or metaphor of the idea of ultimate and total knowledge? And while the Void Dragon is imprisoned on Mars and might have influenced mankind/the Mechanicus though it's seeping dreams, would it really give two figs whether a cult within a race that imprisoned it venerated it as a god or not -if, indeed they actually did venerate the Void Dragon as the Machine God as opposed to the Machine God being a deification/metaphor of the idea of universal understanding?

After reviving the Emperor (if you could), what do you think he would do? My moneys on a long stretch followed by a longer trip to the bathroom. More importantly, how would you say that while keeping a straight face. "Thank you my children for reviving me, now if you'll excuse me, the lack of a bathroom built into the throne was a serious mistake, Ill be right back." They could call it the porcelian crusade. My players are going to hate me.
I assumed the Golden Throne was a toilet... hmmm.
Most have a porcelain throne, but since he's emperor and all, I'd assume his would be made of gold.
Anyway, if he did revive, I'd assume he'd be the newest Chaos God since his mind has been a beacon in the warp so long. Perhaps, he'd be the Chaos Undivided god. He has psychic choir sacrificed to him daily to keep the beacon in the warp going, right?
Someday the humans of the imperium will birth their own version of Slaanesh.
Ah, I wait for the day with baited breath.
