Las Vegas open confirmed to be second Armada Nationals

By Karneck, in Star Wars: Armada

As title states, Las Vegas open in January 2020 will be the location of the second Nationals for Star Wars Armada.

Confirmed my Matt Holand on Twitter.

And it's very likely that that will be the first major tournament that will have the SSD and rebelling in the rim.

Excited to see one so close to me by that i mean 6 hours away. However I hope to hear something about Store Championships as this is normally when they happen.

Me too, my only guess is we won't hear anything until mid July or after Gencon.

FFG is super thin right now.

I know my FLGS has been pestering them about just the normal tournament kits/game night kits.

As someone who lives in the Bay area in California, this is exciting news!!!

Purchasing, but the "Convention Badge" link is broken. Is that the same thing as a 3-day pass or daily pass? Don't want to spend $40 on the wrong thing.

Got it. Seems like only the Armada link was broken. Go figure.

Why does Armada need a second Nationals? When I checked last week, the Gencon North American tournament had only sold 36 of 80 tickets.

Let people have nice things.

It's just sort of amusing, because last year when FFG dropped the number of Armada spots at Gencon down to "only" 40, people were grumbling and grumbling because the event sold out within hours and was clearly perceived to be far too few spots.

This year, they kicked it back up to 80, but more than half the seats are still available (last I checked) weeks after going on sale.

Because a lot of us on the west coast want to participate in a bigger tournament, but just can't take the time to get out to Chicago, Indianapolis, or Virginia. This is amazing and I'm extremely happy about going.

I totally agree with this and big accessible tournaments are awesome. It's just weird to have multiple "nationals" in the same nation.

Well, looking at the OP doc, there can only be one "Grand Championship" per nation. (Old wording, Nationals)
GenCon is the "Nationals" for 2019
LVO is in 2020 and is the "Nationals" for 2020.

What does that mean for GenCon in 2020? Who knows.
Or maybe FFG is wanting to hold just more multiple tournaments in two separate population areas of the US and will change how the OP doc reads. That's up to them, but more tournaments is awesome.

Noooo....

GENCON is the CONTINENTAL championships.

NOVA is Nationals/Grand

Ahhh, right.

Well then I guess Nova won't be having something next year then?

Or maybe we'll have two.

Who knows! *jazz hands*

The communication could be more clear. The original article explaining Grand Championships said they would be once per year, per nation or territory. But FFG's Twitter has also announced a Grand Championship for X-Wing and Legion in St. Louis in November. In addition to NOVA this year.

Heard lots of good things about LVO and love the venue. I play Armada, Legion and X-Wing. Looking at the schedule, you basically have to just pick one for the weekend, right? I’m not seeing a way to play all three over the weekend like at GenCon? I’m guessing LVO is just geared towards the tournaments?

LVO is basically just tournaments, not a convention as such. Just a collection of Tournaments.

The flipside is, its, y'know...

Vegas.

The Armada one says that event is Friday, but then says the top cut on Sunday and the final rounds on Saturday. Seems like that can't be true.

X-Wing has heat 1 on Friday and heat 2 on Saturday, so it might be possible to sign up for Armada plus one other thing as long as you don't make the Armada top cut.

I won't be making any top cuts so I might just give this a try to get some games in.

That's exactly what I was thinking for me too if I go. :) I wonder how close this will be to the actual SSD release.

I hope we have the SSD well before LVO!

Yeah, I'm skeptical... I just hope it isn't released barely before the LVO and is legal.

If they keep to their schedule, the other two civil war era ships should be legal by then as well.

If.
