[Blog] Points Change Paralysis.

Last Chance Qualifier! there's still hope.

Indeed. And, if nothing else, there will be side events. 😀

How did point changes become the only factor in keeping the game fresh??

Points are supposed to be for balancing the game, not a Reset button to give players a clean plate and new cutlery.

Want fresh lists? Play something else and be the change you want to see.

That's the double edged sword of points changes though: anything you switch to might not be legal anymore and therefore you are less motivated to do it.

Personally, I've been taking the time to play underpowered lists that feel like they are on the edge of being good. Fortunately I have local friends who are interested in playing the same way.

I mean I’m an inveterate list builder personally, and have always keyed off on non meta things. And I fly random stuff all the time, my games from yesterday were Sense Saeese, Super Mace, and Wolffe. I love testing things.

But I’m also not looking for the next thing I want to take to a tournament. Because there’s not much reason to. Refining a list is not something I’ll do. I’ll throw any random thing out there, but I also am not going to spend much time evaluating it.

Throw stuff against the wall and don’t care if it sticks.

@Darth Meanie you’re not wrong to say fly whatever, but from a serious perspective I have no reason to try and find a counter to current Rebel Beef or Quad Phantoms, they’re going away. So trying to beat them is pointless.

game needs a bit of a shakeup. new points should do that. right now, im feeling a lack of desire to list build. seems like the meta has been largely solved imo with few new surprises.

faction specific card packs with new content would really give the game a shot in the arm. lets see what FFG has in stall for us. i like this game a lot. im just eager for some new inspiration to build squads.

With the point changes so close I'm in a similar boat but the best suggestion I have is play different game modes. I know the community has made loads of rules for new games. (eg. Mario cart) I play every Wednesday and last week decided to just text the chat saying anyone up for a capture the flag games mode? 4 player 150 points and 2 ships each(no slam or cloaking) .Aim pick the flag up and take it to your corner. Simple rules that I thought could work and it did it was great fun, made a few tweeks and we are playing again this Wednesday.

It's makes list building great again because different ships are "meta" eg. Wexley is alot better in capture the flag.

Well, I mean it's legal until it's illegal. . . So just play the game as it is??

I am dismayed that points are now going to be used to manipulate the game. Fixing problems is one thing, but now FFG can deliberately create the flavor of the day via points , and it seems that not only is everyone OK with it, they actually expect it.

Yeah, I guess I just can't wrap my head around that way to play. I always fly things just because I want to, regardless of power.

I'll be glad when missions are a thing. . .solving for mission success sounds way more interesting and less artificial that "solving the meta."

To be fair, a large part of the problem is no new releases for most of the factions. New pilots and upgrades should be the way to shake up the game. Changing points just to make people use new ships doesn't sit well with me: now it's not about balance, it's about moving the Easter Egg around for people to find.

Eh, idk how "solved" the meta truly is with stuff like Cheri + whisper just kinda spawning out of nowhere

There are some obvious bull lists (mostly beef), but there is a lot of variety if you look below the surface especially in Hyperspace.

****, all three Republic ships make strong showings across their myriad lists and they play wildly different from one another.

There's a **** of a lot more room to breathe here relative to 1st Ed, even if folks are just as liable to jump on bandwagons

The next point change fixing some obvious outliers should, hopefully, bust things right open (least until the passive sensors alpha meta blows everything out of the water maybe)

I like the state of the game right now. I find it fun to go against the norm and try to come up with something that can face the meta and will be a bit of a surprise to the opponents. it doesn't always work out but when it does, it's a lot of fun. My area has a relatively small but active group. About six regulars. and everybody favors different stuff so we see a lot of variety.

Well said. long time between drinks for new content.
