Order 66 Podcast: Dev Interview - Rise of the Separatists

By DarthGM, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

It's that time again, Gamer Nation!

We've got a few books that we NEED to do deep dives into, and the first one on our table is the new Clone Wars Era sourcebook, Rise of the Separatists !

We will be welcoming lead developer Tim Cox to the show to talk about the first book covering this exciting era, and we want YOUR questions about it! Rules questions, design queries, clarifications; whatever you want to ask about this book send them on over to us!

So post up your questions here, over on our forums at d20radio.com, or on our Order 66 Facebook page.

We'll be answering your questions LIVE on Sunday, July 14th at 8pm CST!

See you there!

How would Blast weapons interact with a Phalanx?

How did they go about deciding what went in this vs CotR (not complaining, genuinely curious about the development process)

This is the first time we've seen Barrel Roll as a talent (as opposed to the old Snap Roll house rule, and the maneuver in Genesys). What was the thought process behind this? Is there a thematic intent, mechanical intent? Any concerns of a kind of power creep, as this is a new thing for Star Wars and only one tree that's duct-taped to a kinda specific Species?

Did this one feel especially different to develop compared to a Civil War era sup? If so, how and why?

What were the Design considerations for the Jedi. Will they possibly get Signature Abilities? If You cant answer any thoughts on what types of abilities might fit Jedi signature abilities?

Same question for the Clone Career.

Will we get a full 6 trees for the Jedi career?

Will there be an adventure book and / or supplement/s set in the Clone Wars era?

Does the RotS and CotR bookending leave room for a specific post-Order 66 era guide, especially with Fallen Order coming at the end of the year?

What was the design intention behind the Scavanger? Which character did you have in mind (from the canon I assume) when you chose this universal spec.

Anyway, keep up the good work, great book!

Could you ask the Devs this for me?

" If a pilot is flying a silhouette 4 vehicle and has the Tricky Target or Pride and Joy [Supreme] talents, does the reduction in silhouette when he's attacked mean he can do a Barrel Roll incidental if his ship takes damage?"

For those of you asking about the future of the Jedi career: don't bother. FFG cannot answer questions about stuff that hasn't been publicly announced.

Why is general grevious 5 brawn? dude punched a giant dent into a starship with his bare hands and tossed Kenobi like a toy in revenge of the sith.

The DC-15a has autofire while the longer dc-15 does not (even though it has cumbersome 3 like a heavy blaster rifle), was this an editing error? (page 52)

I second this, I am also interested in the selection process. :)

Same question for the Clone Career.

It's unlikely the devs would be able to answer this due to future content. So I would like to pose the question to our hosts, how would they design a Clone/Jedi Signature Ability?

Now time for my own questions:

  • The Clone Veteran from Dawn of Rebellion has a requirement to be human. With the release of this expansion would you suggest changing that to clone, or even getting rid of the requirement since the clone career does not specify that they need to be a certain race?
  • Phalanx's, where did the idea for this come from? How hard was it to implement?

Species: Do PC Clones (the species) get the benefits and drawbacks of the clone inhibitor chip like the NPC clones in the Adversaries section?

Species: Why the decision to make Geonosians flyers while Toydarians are hoverers? If you were redoing Toydarians now, would you have made them flyers?

Career: Why did you choose to grant the Clone Soldier career Medicine as a career skill over Melee? It seems like and odd chice to me as all clone soldiers carry combat knives, but only a few are medics.

Starship: The Arquitens-class Light Cruiser from Dawn of Rebellion has a crew of 750. The Arquitens-class Light Cruiser from Rise of the Separatists has a crew of 100. Is one of these an error (and, if so, which one)?

Starship: The Arquitens-class Light Cruiser from Rise of the Separatists has Limited Ammo 3 for it's concussion missile launchers (which, with Linked 3, means it has only 3/4 of a single salvo), while the Arquitens-class Light Cruiser from Dawn of Rebellion does not have a Limited Ammo rating for its concussion missile launchers (which is a trend previously seen in larger ships with launchers). Should the Arquitens-class Light Cruiser from Rise of the Separatists have the Limited Ammo quality removed too?

Adversaries/Gear: As the Vulture-class Droid Starfighter and the Hailfire Tank show that Separatist droids are available for purchase, what Price/Rarity would you assign to B2 Super Battle Droids? What about the rest of the Separatist Droids? Would you consider making a table listing the Price/Rarity for these droids for inclusion in an errata?

Adversaries/Gear: What Price/Rarity would you assign for buying Kaminoan clones (of Jango or other types)?

What was the deciding factor in giving the Clone species (based on Jango Fett) Characteristics of 2 across the board?

It seems like 3's in Brawn and Agility and a 1 in Presence would have been more appropriate.

Starships : In Rise of the Separatists , the Damage for Flak Cannons is listed as 4 (Light & Medium) and 5 (Heavy) while both Stay on Target and Lead by Example list the Damage for these weapons as 5 (Light and Medium) and 6 (Heavy). Are Clone Wars-era Flak Cannons intended to have a lower Damage? This also applies to the Munificent- class Heavy Frigate in Rise of the Separatists where the Medium Flak Cannons have Damage 4 compared to the Munificent -class Command, Control, and Communication Frigate from Lead by Example where the Medium Flak Cannons have Damage 5.

EDIT: The flak cannons in Collapse of the Republic also have the lower Damage values seen in Rise of the Separatists , so echoing the same questions again regarding this product.

Another EDIT: Apparently this is working as intended and the flak weapons of the Clone Wars era are inferior to those of the GCW. See Dev Answered Questions thread for full answer.

What was the design choice behind splitting the Clone Wars era into 2 smaller books instead of 1 larger book?

I personally would have preferred 1 book over 2.

I feel that most of us would rather have larger, more comprehensive books than these smaller, incomplete books.

I know it's a long shot here, though going to ask anyways. Will we see other era books? What about more sector books similar to Lords of Nal Hutta, and Suns of Fortune? What does the future of the game hold beyond gear/species/Ship books?

One other question: why is the MTT silhouette 3 in this book?

How do Circle of Shelter and Peerless interception interact. If you have Peerless interception up does circle of shelter benefit.

Last call for questions! We'll take questions up to tomorrow night at midnight, then ask what we can on Sunday!

Ask them how the lightsaber forms interact with the Jedi class. I seems logical to me the Jedi should have a discount for those trees.

What’s up with the three new adversary decks? I thought they would have released with this book or the allies and adversaries, but haven’t seen anything yet.

I didn't see the answers for your questions, so I am posting the timestamps and answers.
