Alphabet Squadron

By Forresto, in Star Wars: Armada

Has anyone here read it?

I haven’t but I hear it invokes the spirit and quality of the old Rogue Squadron books.

With the emphasis on space combat it’s the closest we have to anything resembling Armad in the new canon, I imagine.

I've heard of Dinner Squadron ...

Heard that its a good read.

I'm going to pick it up along with the new Thrawn book.

I'm in the middle of it. Interesting so far. Will let ya know when I'm done

The concept is stupid though.

You can't make an effective squad with a single one of each lettered ship.

And why would you put a U-wing in said squad, when the U-wing is effectively a space Huey?

It works for x-wing miniatures, but only barely.

I think I'll stick with Rogue Squadron.

If only the book recognized that and addressed it. (Spoiler, it does)

I was quite happy with it. Unlike Wraith Squadron from the X-Wing series, these guys meaningfully struggle to be cohesive. It's a return to the Rogue One style underbelly of the Rebellion, which was very much welcome. They have some very good characters that I look forward to seeing again. If you like the concept of Wraith Squadron, you should enjoy this book. It does drag in the middle, but for narrative reasons that make sense and serve the overall plot. I enjoyed Master and Apprentice more, but I'd give Alphabet Squadron a solid 4/5.

"Alphabet Three, standing by!"

There's a reason squadron names tend to be monosyllabic... I mean maybe you get a pass if you're squad name is kind of badass, like Inferno Squadron, but Alphabet Squadron sounds more like a PBS Preschool show about a team of people that love letters and learning to read...

Alphabet Squadron: A little green guy and his friends telling the little kids to build correct sentences, it is?
