Count Dooku - initiative or not!?!

By nj3478, in X-Wing

So, this has been an interesting dilemma when facing opponents who also have Int 3 pilots. Do I move first or second?

The option becomes important as I need to decide if I want to be cloaked and let my opponent try to shoot through 3 defense dice, then attack. Or should I attack first and then cloak immediately afterwards.

What are your thoughts? Especially those who fly Dooku, what have been your observations?

If you go first and have hate for your force ability, you can spend your force for mods, plus to do an action then you get one or two back if you take damage. Saying that, you need to make sure you land shots to make all this happen.

I think it's better to shoot first, so you can try to shoot + cloak, then when you get shot back you can spend force (maybe after taking some damage and using hate to regen) to remove stress. And with a large base like that, you also have the option of blocking and still taking your action so there's always that. It's not like the sith infiltrator is going to be arc dodging anyway :P.

All this talk about Cloak while forgetting the scimitar can jam!

Dooku doesn't really care if he's shooting first or last. He can take advantage of both scenarios, but just has to be flown differently.

If he's shooting first, you'll want to make sure you can decloak at the start of a round. Sometimes it may even be to your benefit to avoid taking the cloak. I've had a few games turn on whether I was able to get rid of that token or not.

If he's shooting last, you can use his ability to get rid of the token. Just watch that your opponent doesn't deliberately avoid shooting him with that last ship to prevent you from getting a return shot.

Shoot first because you can red cloak afterwards and spend a force to lose your stress token - I find if I shoot second people don't always take the bait and shoot him instead killing other ships

Wait how is the stress being dropped? May just be being dumb!

The Count's pilot ability is "after you defend, if the attacker is in your arc, you may remove a red or blue token" - So you shoot - hit - red cloak - defend - spend a force to remove a red token (stress or a red target lock) -

Given his flexibility, it matters more what else is in your list. Grievous or Maul? You probably want to move last. Droids? You probably want to block.

Oh dang, of course. Nice!
