Next Buy in Books?

By Thenger, in Dark Heresy

Okay so I am going to be getting some cash from my income tax return and I am thinking of picking up a few extra books. Right now I have the core rulebook, the GM screen and have access to the IH, from a friend. Now I am wondering what would be a good step on what I need to pick up next. I am running the game, and I hate having to borrow a book from a friend so I am thinking of picking up IH and then perhaps two to three more books. What would be the best buys? Talking about core rule books not adventures, unless some of them have nice bits of rules included.

Thanks in advance. happy.gif

Well, if you're the GM and are looking to pick up the IH and two others, CA and DotDG are natural choices and good idea food. If you have/like a lot of Inquisitorial infighting and polotics within the ordos, or if your players have a radical bent, then you might want to replace CA (since DotDG goes much nicer with RH) with RH.

Well, excluding adventures certainly limits your choices anyway, down to Ascension, Disciples of the Dark Gods, Radicals, Creatures Anathema and Handbook. I have found handbook to be the most useful, what with all its goodies and such. As for a 2nd book, it depends on what kind of games you run. I personally run more non-Chaos games, with rebels and Xenos, so I found Anathema more helpful than Disciples.

I'd not get Ascension or Radical's until your PC's are more advanced. This is obvious for Ascension, but I found Radicals to be more hardcore enemies. Also, it gives your players a chance to settle on what kind of path they want to follow (Radical or Puritan), rather than influence them with all the goodies in Radical's.

I have to say that DotDG and RH are both good choices. They both give you a good range of new groups and NPCs to add to your GM tool box....Yes some of them can be a little over powered...but that just means that then you would have some good enemies to make for you group to run into over and over gran_risa.gif

Thanks allot, should be getting my check on Thursday, so will swing by the local store and pick up the books. Thanks allot on the info guys! :)

In your shoes, I would get Disciples of the Dark Gods and the Creatures Anathema . After those two pick up Radicals Handbook, I think that the information in there is more suited to the higher levels.
