Seneschal Special Ability

By Awry2, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

Hello.

I apologize if this has already been asked, but the Search function doesn't seem to be working and I went back a couple of pages.

A simple question: Can the Seneschal's special ability to auto-succeed at (for example) a Lore roll be used after the roll in question, like spending a fate point to re-roll except to auto-succeed?

Thanks for the help.

There's no clear rule about it, It could be argued either way but for two fate points (one to re-roll and one to auto-succeed) I'd be inclined to err in favour of the player.

That's a lot of fate for the long online IRC sessions I'm in, heh.

I would be inclined to believe it could be used afterwards as well, but only because most powers that can only be used before a roll usually say so.

So the answer might be implied, or it might just be completely vague. Which is partly why I'm asking here. :P

Yeah, I don't think there's anything hard or fast about it. But I'd let them spend after. Fates valuble, and those kinds of checks usualy arn't game-braking (though failing them sure can be).

That would mean that in addition to what's explicitly stated in the "Seeker of lore" ability the seneschal would get the effect of another fate point for nothing, seems a bit much to not be written out in the text.

And while it's certainly true that many abilities that have to be used before the roll say so it's equally true that most (if not all) abilities that can be used after the skill roll say so.

The only use of fate points that's similar is when you use one to gain a +10 bonus, which has to be done ahead of time.
