New Points Costs – A Statistical Model (Updated for S2 2019)

There's still "current" point cost errors in there. First I noticed: of the Aggressors, only A is correctly costed. Correct costs are A) 68, B) 64, C) 65, D) 64.

Ugh. Thought I’d finally fixed them all. I’ll go back again...

Funny: Black Sun Ace -2 to 39. Cartel Marauder ´+1 to 39. (Now the meme list of 5 kihraxz could be 5 Black Sun Aces with Crack Shot).

You think that’s funny? You should see the Vultures. Definitely a bit of overcorrection going on there, but it’s tricky when you’re in the 20 point range.

It would be interesting to see 3xDecimators, 3xVCX, 4xE-wings, 4xSith Infiltrators, 4xSilencers, 5xX-wings, 6xTie-Interceptors...

Yeah... I’d definitely make the call not to allow 3 Decimators or 5 Reapers or X-Wings. The others I’m not really scared of though...

I wonder... could FFG fix some of the points-break weirdness by soft-capping the number of generics for each chassis by size in Standard 200/6? E.g.: no more than 4 of the same small, 3 of the same medium, or 2 of the same large. So you could still have four Academies plus four Inferno guys, for instance; but you couldn’t have three Patrol Leaders. And the non-generics of a given chassis could be balanced against that.

I could see this easily not working, but I dunno.

That would probably kill Seps as a viable faction.

It would also kill stuff like Inferno Squadron, which is nice and thematic, if not particularly OP.

Seps would probably be fine still, they'd just evolve towards using a couple of hyenas in the swarm. Sear, 4 TFD, 2 Baktoid with ordnance fits. (eg: https://raithos.github.io/?f=Separatist Alliance&d=v8ZsZ200Z308X239WW229Y279XW208WY279XW208WY279XW208WY279XW208WY329XW238WWWY329XW97WWW&sn=Unnamed Squadron&obs= )

PS: Brazilian nationals showed us hyenas with struts and proximity mines are viable. :D

I have to say, I like this better than other "cap the ship count" suggestions I've read. I go back and forth on stuff like this. Often, it seems like "cap the number to lower the price" stuff often results in prices which are too low. Even with a cap, being too cheap brings risks. Having four of a too-cheap generic, plus at least 40 points of other stuff can be really strong.

Great example list: TIE/sfs. The best Advanced Optics swarm is probably 4 Omegas + Backdraft, all with AdvO and Crack Shot. They can fit Backdraft for a juicy bonus attack die because TIE/sf are probably a point too cheap without the gunner.

Not necessarily. How I read @CoffeeMinion is that it depends on the *same* generic. 4 Trade Feds, 3 Separatist Vultures might fit.

Or just exempt Vultures.

With TIEs, it's only the generic that gets capped. You could bring 8 TIEs, but only 4 Academy Pilots.

I probably didn't read it thuroughly enough and fixated on it being a "chassis" limit. Some separatist lists already run separatist vultures instead of trade federation drones because of the mirror match advantage(it also out-initiatives cartel marauders among other things). Making them mix the generics won't really kill the faction. Haor Chall Prototypes are another alternative to ini match the tfds.

IE: this 8 ship list would work, at current points, with the restriction:

4x Trade Federation Drone (19)
Grappling Struts (1)

Ship total: 4x20 Half Points: 10 Threshold: 2

2x Haor Chall Prototype (21)
Grappling Struts (1)

Ship total: 2x22 Half Points: 11 Threshold: 2

Captain Sear (39)
TA-175 (5)
Soulless One (6)

Ship total: 50 Half Points: 25 Threshold: 4

Precise Hunter (23)
Grappling Struts (1)

Ship total: 24 Half Points: 12 Threshold: 2

Total: 198
