Does anyone have a bead on them? Last year we had an article June 6th, only a month after Worlds. Figured I would ask to see if anyone had heard anything yet.
Store Championships?
I'm pretty sure Store Championships are not a thing anymore...
The classic FFG Organized Play structure used to be:
Seasonal/Quarterly Kits --> Store Championships --> Regionals --> Nationals --> Continentals (North American and European) --> Worlds
This, however, was done away with last year by FFGOP when X-Wing 2.0 launched. The entire FFGOP system of events did away with Store Championships and Regionals and such they now have things like "Hyperspace Trials" and "System Open Series" and the like. Part of this is because X-Wing now has multiple competitive formats (e.g. Hyperspace, Extended, Variant).
Since Armada has always just followed along with X-Wing's OP structure and schedule, I guess it's a new frontier for what to expect for Armada's Organized Play. We already know that Armada isn't getting a premium kit in the next batch of OP Kits, so I'd be honestly shocked and surprised if Armada still got Store Championships and Regionals even though FFGOP has moved away from that tournament structure. I'd say ask Rune Wars or Imperial Assault what sort of tournament structure they have now, since the also used to follow the X-Wing OP model to some extent, but... those games have both basically had their life support cords unplugged during this past year. Rune Wars has officially been unsupported with no more organized play and no more releases (though not sure FFG has officially stated that the product line is dead) and Imperial Assault is only getting digital support for the boardgame adventures, with no new product on the horizon and old product apparently not being reprinted anymore?
So it's a good question for Armada, seeing as it's the last of the "X-Wing 1.0 era" miniature games left... just what sort of Organized Play structure will it have (if any, maybe it'll move to a purely casual game line, though without a boardgame-style variant like IA that's less of a comforting fate for a tabletop miniatures game)? Clearly players are still expecting the old structure from OP, but that's been scrapped almost 8 months ago for an entirely new structure of events and formats in X-Wing (none of which Armada has yet had ported over). I kind of feel like there's about to be an awkward moment soon where Armada is basically Milton from
Office Space
. Back when Rune Wars and Imperial Assault got fired, FFGOP was supposed to send a termination letter to Armada too. But through some glitch Armada has just been sitting patiently in the basement waiting... and waiting... and waiting... and management doesn't have the stones to just go tell him OP is over.
"Uh, hey Bob, I was just down in the basement and Armada asked me when he'd be getting his next Premium Kit..."
"Uhhh...what did you tell him...?"
"I just said "no plans for a kit this time" is all.."
"Okay, good, these things eventually take care of themselves."
Cling to them red swinglines, friends!
Well, negativity aside, They have previously said, 2x Store Champs kits per store, and that included Armada in the changeover.
We were included in the first kit changeover, and premium kits were extra to that (limited in scope as they are, we’re, and always would be.)
So I firmly believe getting what we’re promised, but not getting what we weren’t promised isn’t is the end of the world so far.
Sure, call it hope - it’s better than the alternative given what we know is coming, which is, you know, SOMETHING more than nothing.
Thus ends my rationality.
Ergo:
I mean, no one has Store Champs kits yet, right? So logically all games are dead, right?
Only Destiny has any info on their Prime Chanpuonships so far, so all other prime championships must be cancelled forever, right?

Can’t tell if serious or joking.
There isn't one officially. Unofficially it’s whatever we say it is now.

I thought you were leaving us again...

Following up because honestly curious. Are you saying that Armada
has had
Store Championships within the past six months? and/or are you saying that Armada has been promised future Store Championships (yet unannounced) that each store would be able to get 2x copies of?
Both would be news to me, but I certainly could have missed it as the Armada tourney scene dried up in our state about eight months ago and was likely entirely off of my radar.
Also, not sure I understand your claim about no games yet having Store Champ kits...? Why would any games expect to have Store Champ kits anymore, as they have all been told about their new game-specific tournament structures months ago when FFGOP did their big restructuring and none of them include store championships. While Store Champs where a thing shared by most of FFGOP's games back in the "1.0 X-Wing Era," my point above was that when FFGOP did their big restructuring improvement around the time of X-Wing 2.0 going live, I thought they announced that the old ways and things like Store Championships were being gotten rid of for their OP structure, so we wouldn't expect any games to be getting any more. Now games get their own more unique OP Structures (e.g. Hyperspace Trials, System Opens, etc. for X-Wing; Elemental Series, Kotei, and Winter Courts for L5R; for the younger Legion just things like Recruitments and Ground Assaults; etc.).
But the point is, that it seems FFGOP has moved into an era where all of their supported games have their own unique tournament structures and names for events where Store Championships no longer exist. In the old days all their games had Kits, Store Champs, Regional Champs, etc. but that is not the current structure.
So, the question then becomes two-fold:
(1) What will Armada's OP Structure look like moving forward?
(2) Why has Armada not been told anything about it's new OP Tournament Structure like the other currently supported games were?
PS: For what it's worth, pretty much everyone I've talked to in X-Wing dislikes the new tournament structure and names, as it's far less intuitive and makes much less sense than the old system of tiered events.

Which was precisely my point.
Armada is in this weird limbo right now. Like Imperial Assault and Rune Wars, they don't seem to have any current FFGOP support. But unlike Imperial Assault and Rune Wars, Armada has been promised new physical releases.
Which means it really is an open and somewhat puzzling question as to just what the nature of FFGOP will be for Armada over the next year. Armada not being included in the newest wave of Premium Kits is not a great start, though.
Lol it's like a cycle. FFG doesn't put out any info for months, people point out that it's frustrating, people call that person negative and pile hate onto them. weird to see it happening again, that's what i get for logging on two days in a row.

TOTALLY not my Fault if people don't read the News
And I don't
specifically
mean you, I'm talking about people who are assuming that the Open/Extended OP system is the only track of OP anymore... It *is* confusing, but that's why they put this out to clear it up back at the End of January:
https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2019/1/30/the-future-of-organized-play/
" These are fun, local tournaments that your favorite local game store gets to hold twice per year (per game). Store Championships represent a chance to test and refine your competitive skills while playing for a range of custom prizes."
There's a whole section on what OP is doing for the Championship Season, and then it adds in those "Extra" things in the "OPEN" season like the Galactic Qualifiers, the grand Kotei's and such like that...
Its even in this article where it states that
some
games will get Premium Kits, after explaining what the regular stuff generally is.
"
Some games will also receive
Seasonal Premium Kits
in addition to their regular Seasonal Kits. Retailers and event organizers can use these Premium Kits to support their communities with additional gaming experiences, either casual or competitive. Players participating in events supported by these Premium Kits will contend for prizes that are a step up—a bit more "premium," if you will—than those included in the standard Seasonal Kits."
In Short:
There's still the general OP system in place... Store Champs, Primes, Grands, Worlds, Etc...
But some games (X-Wing, Destiny and Keyforge included) are getting more than that.
When people focus on the "MORE", they forget the "BASELINE".
In the spirit of true transparency, my statements far above made the following Assumption:
When OP refers to "All our Games", I assume they are referring to all of the games that currently have OP Kit support. This includes Armada.
This does not include Runewars as the OP support of Runewars was officially wrapped up, so its no longer counted... I've heard that Skirmish in IA will get no further Physical expansion support, but I hadn't heard anything specific on IA, and they were having a World's just recently I believe that wasn't specifically billed as the last... But Im not hooked in over there as strongly as I am here.
Edited by DrasnightaI summarize: Its June 14, not one card or token or anything for OP 2019 showing up here.
Pls, by all means let us wait a year + on new releases, but is it asking too much to do at least something to support the game, company-wise? Is it now all on the proactivity of a few players who are willing to go the unsupported extra extra mile?

The basic OP stuff hasn’t shown up anywhere, for any game - the stuff here:
https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2019/3/29/star-wars-armada-seasonal-play/
is only just trickling out now it seems... again, this isn’t an issue confined to Armada - it’s overall, so we shouldn’t feel SPECIFICALLY neglected.
only GENERALLY so 😁
I know all that. I read 😉

Yeah, the point is, that release cycle of stuff isn’t out for anyone yet - not even the x wing stuff... So as I said, General, not specific neglect.

I'm not sure if a "what would you say ya do here" or "there are going to be dinosaurs in your...dinosaur theme park, right?" meme would be the most appropriate for FFG's current business practices.
It's cool that there's a new board game though, i guess.
Looks like the Store Championship articals are starting to roll out starting with Keyforge, so in the coming weeks we will hear something, about ours.
