Ship needed for mission

By bsmith23, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

Search and rescue mission to Tatooine. Downed x wing, missing pilot, experimental astromech. Mission to be run by a team of 4-6, 2-3 y wing bombers. Support ship for team and bombers needed for transport of survivors and salvage.

Thanks

A Wayfarer is the smallest ship I know of that can explicitly hold an intact fighter of X-Wing size, and it holds 16 people. It's EotE's corebook, and would normally be used by rebels (Galaxy at War stated they used them for troop drops). Don't understand how a downed X Wing needs transport of plural survivors though.

Just in case they try to salvage the wreck.

A U-Wing would work for the team, and extracting the pilot and astromech. I doubt a larger rebel ship would be committed to such an operation.

Salvaging the wreckage..? If it's a prototype, salvage the important bits, then blow it up; otherwise, leave it for the steelpeckers.

Hadn't thought of the u wing. Might change to that.

Just about any light freighter can act as a support ship, and with a clamp it can haul an X-wing around. I would suggest going with something that has a Class 1 hyperdrive (like the Y-wings have) so they can get there and back quickly. Nearly any ship can be modified to do this, but the MC-18 Light Freighter from Desperate Allies comes with one standard.

I'll back up the U-wing option. If the X-wing isn't itself of unique value, they'd either leave it, recover the important bits and blow it, or send a separate salvage team later.

Option 3 is probably the safest solution, as the Rebellion probably has plenty of Salvage teams that are legit private civilian salvage operations as well. They could literally show up and do the salvage out of the blue, and if the Empire showed up, they'd at best hassle them and then leave em be when they check out, and at worst just run them off.

Uh. Logistics.

I keep going back to the Wayfarer too. The shipping container/cargo hold can double as a hanger for the Y-Wings (it'll be a bit cramped in that function) and could easily hold the bits and pieces of a downed X-Wing.

But that assumes that the team is staging from a location close to Tattoine. If you're NOT staging close to Tatooine, then we're talking about needing a ship that would hold the Y-Wings in a Hanger. And I think the CR-90 (with hanger) is the best bet for the team as a support vessel.

Looking deeper, It looks like Bothawui (R14) is about a three day haul so the Y-Wing would have the endurance for the two way trip. I'm bring up Bothawui, because IMSWU the Rebels have a fleet presence that this team could stage this mission from. If there is a similar base within Y-Wing range, then you can look at much smaller "support" ships to haul away the X-Wing wreckage.

Indeed, with a good team of engineering techs and laser cutters, almost any cargo ship will suffice, even a YT-2400. (As you would dismantle or cut up wreckage, and haul the X-Wing components onto the ship as normal cargo).

As a matter of fact, I have a team that would be ideal for this type of mission. They're flying a VCX-100 and could get there from Defiant Core within three days.

So what's the background on this wayward X-Wing? Who's the pilot and what's special about the Astromech? And is the X-Wing salvage necessary or just a bonus? What was the mission profile for the downed X-Wing Pilot?

If you don't mind I'd like to issue a mission order for SOG DC 01. I can get Rachel Starrunner to pull this mission under codename "Bureaucratic Alliance."

Obviously I'm asking for sensitive mission data and if you need to go to Secure Comms for those details, I understand.

I'm toying with a prototype r6 astromech. His astrogation buffer malfunctioned while in the x wing causing the ship to malfunction and crash during a sandstorm. The pilot, Red 6, ejected, tracks indicate he was captured and imprisoned by Tuskens, Shmi Skywalker style.

R6-X0 is hunting for his pilot, and is taken by Jawas. He can be located at a Jawa swap meet, either whole or in pieces. He holds many coordinates for various Rebel operations.

The X-Wing has been salvaged by Hondo Onaka's gang, who have given it to Jabba as a gift in hopes of getting in good standings with him. It currently hangs as a trophy in his palace. I'm thinking recovering the weapons (proton torpedoes) would be the best reason to go after it, Jabba should NOT have those kind of weapons to play with. (As a twist, maybe Hondo took them before he gave the ship to Jabba).

Throw in random encounters with Imperials and a Krayt Dragon, and it should make for a fun one-shot.

I was inspired by a picture I took backstage at a Performing Arts school I was visiting. I'll post it in a few

I'm totally going to snik this one.

Thanks for the intel. I like it and I'm going to try to insert this idea as a mission for DC01.

Thanks!

I'm test running it today and will full play at the local con in October
