Why no Sons of Horus?

By johnych, in Horus Heresy

A q for FFG - why no Sons of Horus in the game?

In the original game and the 40k universe as it has evolved in the last 20 or so years we have clearly seen that the SoH that turned to Chaos stay with him to the bitter end and end up becoming th Black Legion under Abbadon the Destroyer.

Other than that - great game, well worth the money and will we ever see Space Crusade and Battle for Armageddon?

Regards,

John

You are not the only one who noticed that there are no Sons of Horus in the game. At first I thought FFG had forgotten to include them, but then I thought: Maybe in an expansion?

In any case it is quite ridiculous that they are not in the game box or even part of the rules. Horus most important troops not fighting on Terra, when everyone knows they were there.

Could be a licensing issue with GW as well. When they license their products out they have some pretty strict and complicated rules about what can and cannot be in the licensed product.

True, but I think it is highly unlikely that the Sons of Horus were left out because of licence issues. I can't think of any possible problem with the licence.

I noticed no Iron Warriors (WTF?) and no Sons of Horus??? Oo; (wtf)

Maar wel Magnus The Red... who wasn't even present. -___-;

Iron Warriors were there ?

Well, the GW background isn't quite consistent there (In the original GW game for example Magnus was also present http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/169234/horus-heresy and in some other stories about the Horus Heresy) and we have yet to see the books about the invasion on Holy Terrah .

I think that FFG encountered some problems in balancing the game with 5 traitor legions and imo leaving the Sons of Horus out was a better option than leaving one god out. Still a pretty bad situation regarding the background. I hope that we see the Sons of Horus in an expansion (and possible the remaining loyal Lunar Wolves(IIRC some survived Istvaan) )

Well, at least no one complains about the missing squats ;)

This is the fluff version i'm familiar with:

IW's did the siegecraft and their feud with the Imperial Fists is linked in part with the campaign.
Assaulters were World Eaters.
Sons of Horus were the spine with Abaddon earning his spurs there.
And Emperor's Children... absically went genocidal and did far too little due to their insane pleasureseeking.

Magnus was being chased by Russ...

Backstory in the Scenario Guide is a mix of what William King wrote as part of the original HH game and parts of Collected Visions. Or at least those seemed to share passages with the backstory in the FFG release. Both of those mention the four cores chapters and their Primarchs taking part of the attack on Terra (Angron, Maggy, Fulgrim and Mortarion). Iron Warriors, Word Bearers and Sons of Horus all got a lot less text about them with regard to the attack on Terra.

Yep, the IW employed siege engines. The great diorama of the battle for the Emperor's palace of GW shows both Iron Warriors and one of their siege engines.

It might be silly to many... but this is kinda putting me of from buying the boardgame.
I can't forgive the absence of the IW's or the Sons of Horus...
I guess i'll wait until an addon comes out... if ever.

Just imagine the Sons of Horus are included in the other space marine troops and following a particular Chaos god.

I almost read 'Abaddon' for a moment there.

They tell you explicitly in the rulebook that a lot of things have had to be abstracted to make the boardgame what it is: fairly easy to play, tense, and well balanced.

I have no problem imagining that the other legions are abstracted into the general massive battle going on.
